Looks like Golden is away. So taking over.:D

Yep, you can cancel. No harm.

If your Hitachi drive shows as Bad Disk in Partition Wizard, the prognosis is not good - from my observation in many cases.

Yet, no harm trying to format the drive.

In Partition Wizard, select the right drive/partition, and then Delete partition followed by Format partition. When you have set up partition details, click on Apply. Let us see what happens.

When you select the drive/partition in PW, all permissible operations should show in the left pane.

31-08-2013 11-24-31.jpg

You will get the same Menu when you select and right click on the partition.

That is what you have got now. From the screenshot I could not make out whether all the items therein are greyed out. If those are all greyed out, bad luck. Since PW has decided that it is a bad disk, it is not allowing you to do any operations.

If so, go ahead with DocBrown's suggestion in post#10 and check your drive with the manufacturer's utility.

Yeah all options are greyed out. I also tried DocBrown's suggestion but somehow the progem still can recognize my hard drive. Any other suggestions? Thanks for helping.

You mean that the program was unable to recognise the Hitachi drive even after scanning for drives? ( Read the instructions on installing and using the Utility)

If your Hitachi drive is under warranty, exercise that option to get a replacement.

If not, the only option is take out the drive from its case, and try it as a second drive plugged into a desktop. If it is only the interface electronics in the case that had failed, the drive should be OK. If on the other hand the drive itself is dead, then it is what it is, dead.

( In two hours from now I shall be out of station for a day or two. May be others will followup and guide you if you need further advice.)
