Basically I'm house sitting for someone for a week and I've brought my PC over to their house in order to keep playing PC games while I'm there. I can connect to the web and use browsers and I can connect to Steam. However Skype and Teamspeak will not let me connect to them.

Can anyone tell me what is happening?

Some additional info:

- I have flushed the DNS to no avail.
- When I first booted up the PC, the LAN driver was not working, although a reboot seemed to fix the issue.
- I cannot even ping the Teamspeak server using the command prompt.
- I have performed a system restore but it hasn't helped.

Why would you start making a bunch of changes to YOUR pc just because it won`t connect to the internet at THEIR house ?

Did you unplug the ethernet cable from their pc and connect it to yours ?

Is their modem/router turned on ?

These may be dumb questions but hey :)

Because I suspect the issue may be to do with the router settings, but I can't seem to log on to the router. I am connected via Ethernet, I don't have a wireless card and yes, the router is on.

If the cable works for their pc, then it`ll work for yours. It`s not the router settings.

You shouldn`t be messing with someone else`s equipment anyway.

Just run the troubleshooter on your network icon.

I suppose I ought to give you some more information because I don't really think you understand what the problem is here.

Obviously I've run the troubleshooter, it's the first thing I did. Although it isn't picking anything up because not being able to connect to skype isn't really a Microsoft issue.

There is no 'their PC.' I'm house-sitting for my mother and she doesn't use a PC or an ethernet cable. This is my cable connected to her router, which she normally connects to wirelessly with her laptop. Consequently, because she's my mother, I can mess with her router all I like and she won't care at all. The last time I house sat for her I forwarded some ports to increase the speed of the blizzard downloader, for example.

The issue is not that I can't connect to the internet, it is that I can't connect to certain services, such as Skype and teamspeak. The internet is also extremely slow on my PC, but perfectly fine on the laptop, which leads me to believe that the issue is either with my PC talking to the router, or some software-related issue on my PC.

I guess the first place to start here is to ask ourselves, what do these communication services use which other online services don't? What are they being denied which is stopping them from connecting properly, while my browser is working at limited capacity? One of the reasons why I suspect this may be router-related is because everything was working fine at my house just yesterday. The PC is the same, the only thing that has changed is the router its plugged into.

What is your problem man? All I've done is ask for help with an issue. Why are you being so passive-aggressive?

I have no idea what PA is supposed to be an abbreviation of but I think its a shame that you get your kicks from trolling internet forums about networking issues.

I don't know the answer to your problem but I do have a idea.

Some how some way can you get by with out Skype and Teamspeak for a week rather than changing your computer or your mothers router/modem?
Just a thought.

Unfortunately not as I need Skype for work. On top of that, browsing is virtually impossible. I'm thinking this is probably a DNS-related issue so if any unfortunate people chance upon this unhelpful thread, I recommend you explore that avenue of inquiry. I've found some helpers on Reddit who aren't inexplicably angry so I'm gonna transfer my focus over there.

Chances are your ethernet adapter isn't optimized for her router that is the only and best possible explanation you can go on further by resetting the Adapter or simply buy a cheap Wireless adapter

There is no need to go swapping settings around if you don't really know if that is the cause some Routers do need to be updated with Firmware some actually drop signals and make it a miserable experience have you even tried to cheap if there is a update for her router ?

I am also sorry you feel the help here wasn't up to your standards this is a real help community and maybe a little lightning up would help a little more we understand your frustrated but taking your time instead of rushing for a answer is about as helpful as crossing the street with no arms and legs

So first off the router might need a update

second you could just cut the BS buy a cheap wireless adapter and be done with it

One more thing scan your system for Network port bugs they tend to block or make internet usage very hard

Pretty much all i can think of shy of the ethernet adapter giving up the ghost or better yet could use a updated driver itself
