essenbe, thank you- I was thinking about that, as I had to do that on my XP Pro SP3 machine- same monitor. I appreciate the reminder, and we'll give that a go.

Now, I just have to figure out how to make the text bolder across Windows 7... it was easy on XP. Hope it doesn't require a registry hack.

Go to the same page you adjusted the text size, and in the left column select turn on clear text type. You should be taken through several screens where you will be asked to select the text that is easiest to read. In the end, it will adjust the text for you. You could also try the one below that of set custom text size

Well, sir, I tried both of those options to no avail. I like the 125% text size and the default font. The first option you presented doesn't actually change the weight of the text, but rather the sharpness as appears to a given set of eyes. And the default on each of those four panes appears best for my eyes.
Now, if you'll observe in the Window Color and Appearance pane, there are options similar to the XP layout-

View attachment 364269

And in the Item box, there are all kinds of native locations-

View attachment 364270

I'll have to play around with it a bit. I had my XP Pro set up the way I liked it, but man, that was a while ago!...I had changed the pane header colors, font, and font weight to where I preferred.

On another note, I do like the graphic appearance much better with the 1920x1080 res- makes me anxious to get the Graphics Card and a new monitor to support HDMI.

I appreciate all of your input and help on the matters at hand here. Next, we move on to a new thread on HDD to SSD. That should be an experience, as I haven't ventured into the world of SSD's yet.

Kind Regards-

tim

In addition to essenbe's pointer I find the Calibrate colour is a good feature for adjusting the brightness, contrast gamma and all that weird stuff. The only thing I find with doing that is that on a reboot the darn settings go back to default as somehow the settings via Windows cuts ot the settings on the monitor proper.

SSDs are not a big issue really. Many people tend to try to make them so. Be careful what you read on the internet about 'optimizing' them. Much of the stuff was written for first generation SSDs and are not needed now. I own about 13 of them and ICIT2LOL owns a few also. I do very little 'optimization' to them. Too many people optimize them to where they don't work well.

Thanks, fellas- Yeah, I have the hardware all picked out, and I don't have an issue with spending $20 on the Paragon utility. Once I am certain this installation is clean and intact, we're hoping to migrate the C:\OS and the D:\Recovery and progs over to the SSD, wipe this SG Barracuda 7200 1 TB drive and move Documents over to it. Right now, there's approx. 49GB on this drive, so the Samsung 850 Pro 256GB should be more than adequate for future consideration. A lot of my engineering and design progs I don't install, yet run them from disc/optical drive because they are HUGE files.
And, essenbe, I know what you mean about internet info- we'll study a tutorial here at 'sevenforums'. I like this site!
Again, Thanks!

Regards-

tim

As essnbe says again mate and I use mainly Samsung SSD's and they have a dedicated optimizing software which is all you need with them. I find the SanDisk brand really good but I don't know about optimizing them.

In fact this might of use to you if you are trying to optimise anything in 7 and it includes some stuff on SSD's

I don't believe Paragon will transfer the Recovery partition, but am not sure I have never tried it. I have used Paragon Migrate at least 100 times though and it has never failed for me, but I don't have a recovery partition.
