Windows seven ultimate x64 copy installed on my computer 2 days ago. It's SP1, but lacking in updates as windows update has been completely and utterly f*cked for me. When wanting to play mario on an emulator, the first thing I did was plug in a ps3 controller. Apart from the ds3 tool and chrome nothing else was open. This is the first time it happened. I do not/ cannot find a minidump file. but there is a memory dump file worth 600mb.

Could this be because of the lacking windows updates or something else? This has never happened to me before.

I have stated in my initial post that it was a fresh install of windows which is the reason why it was not set to create minidumps. I do have however the memory dump which is a 600mb file

Not entirely true that that is the reason why a dump isn't created, it is also due to missing updates why a minidump couldn't be created.

Well, I know that right after it happened I checked the minidump folder which was empty and then I changed the settings for it to create the small memory dump. Can the memory dump file be of any use?

Yes, it contains more than a minidump but can be large for which the reason is why you need to upload it to a service like google drive, dropbox or onedrive.

Unfortunately it contains not much, not enough for me to provide any suggestion as a possible fix. I could provide instructions for driver verifier, but it is preferrable to run driver verifier after Windows is up to date :)
