Solved BSOD and Stop Errors Becoming More Frequent

Hi there,

A couple of days ago my computer started freezing and becoming unresponsive, then coming up with application errors titled 'steamwebhelper.exe - Application Error' or 'chrome.exe - Application Error'. After this the screen either goes completely black and I have to turn it off from the power button (Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't work), or I get BSOD, with a message saying 'A process or thread crucial to system operations has unexpectedly ended.' After this I go to turn the computer back on and it comes up with a message saying 'Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key'. I assume this is the computer trying to boot from the CDROM Drive, and I can get around it by pressing Backspace/F8 at startup and changing the boot priorities. I've ran a ChkDsk, a memory check and even done a system restore and it still continues, any help would be appreciated.

I should have also mentioned in my original post, I know I have Nvidia drivers to update, but when I go on the GeForce Experience it gives me the message 'Cannot connect to NVidia'. I've tried downloading them straight from the internet, but it always fails on the graphics driver.

Thanks for the new upload however I noticed that there weren't any dump files in the upload.

Also please update your specs, I noticed that you haven't filled in your motherboard model.

You can follow this guide if you are unsure how to do it:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html

And with the Nvidia error I would suggest you download and install Revo uninstaller and uninstall everything from Nvidia, reboot and then try to install the graphics driver.

When I check my System Information, the motherboard model doesn't show up, is there any other way I could find out what it is?

Apparently I already have the Kernel File Dump set up correctly, shall I just wait for another BSOD and try it again?

Okay I'll give the uninstaller a go, thank you.

Yes you can download and install Speccy <- click.

No you can open up Explorer and enter this into the search bar: %SYSTEMROOT%/Minidump
And if there are any files there upload them here please!

Oh you are most welcome.

Okay I've updated my specs with my motherboard and am currently reinstalling the Nvidia Driver.

I can't find any dump files, despite having a BSOD earlier today.

Nvidia's reinstalled fine! That's great thanks! I'm guessing it's unlikely that's what was causing the BSODs though?

No and the problem is that without the dump file it's near to impossible to figure out what it was that caused the BSOD.

But fingers crossed and this will have solved some issues at least.

I think I know what your problem might be, just before/after your system crash the system reported that your CPU got really hot, I'm talking about over 100 Celsius.

So please open up the case and check the CPU cooler, if you happen to have a stock cooler one of those tiny wee ones that came with your CPU when you bought it I would recommend you buying a new one. You might need to reseat the cooler, take it off the CPU clean the thermal paste and redo the paste and reseat it.

I've got my case open and I have a freezer pro 7 Rev.2. I can't remove it right now unfortunately as I don't have a screwdriver (cons of being a uni student), it's been good to have a bit of a clean inside though, didn't realise how long it'd been!

Are there any fan cooler's and thermal pastes you'd recommend and any videos/walkthroughs on how to replace it?

Thanks again for your help.

Well I would recommend this cooler.

And here is a good video on how to remove and replace a CPU cooler.

Cheers and I hope that this was the culprit of your problem!

Thanks a lot for the suggestion and the video.

Just in case it's not the cooler (which I will probably replace anyway), I had another BSOD right now and I definitely got a Minidump this time, would it be alright for you to take a look at it?

Thanks again.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I've started/done all those tests, the long generic is currently at 11% and I figured out the error scan would take about 32 hours so I thought I'd let you know now, the Short Drive Self Test, the Short Generic Test and the disk check all passed and the screenshots of the Health and Benchmarks are attached.

What hard drive(s) do you have and how many hard drives do you have?

The benchmark read minimum and maximum are very low, it indicates a hard drive that is reaching the end.

I've got a 1TB D: Hard drive and a 100GB C: Drive as well as the F: System Reserved drive.

The error scan is running a lot faster now and should be done in about 2 hours.

I can't say what exact Hard Drives they are as the error scan is running, as my computer was about to crash, so I can't get into anything on the computer, because I don't want to restart the error scan. I think there's more info in my profile specs if that helps?

Thanks again.
