BSOD at wake up after sleep

i've installed linux on my system to try and at least check whether its my hardware which is at fault or not. will post back with the results after watching for a day or two. or am i wrong with this method of checking?

Using Linux certainly won't hurt the system at all, though I doubt you'll learn much that way.

Go ahead and update the BIOS; you never know when an update will help. BIOS issues are some of the most frustrating things computer techs face; they can exhibit symptoms of both hardware and software issues. Hardware tests don't show anything, and reformats don't help!

Give the the Intel drivers a try. If it doesn't work, no matter, and if it would have helped and we don't try it, we'll feel like morons.

I think you'll find Ubuntu just doesn't have everything you want. Some of those are program incompatibilities, others are drivers. For example, I know someone who started to use Linux on his laptop, but switched back to Windows because the ACPI features weren't supported. His laptop ran at full power all the time, creating a lot of heat and draining his battery in an untimely fashion.

aah yes the issues are always there i still cant get my wma lossless rips to play on it...the last time i had tried was 2 years back.

anyways, turns out the display driver wasn't the latest (even not the latest whql) i've installed catalyst v11.5 and the system feels noticeably much quicker to resume from (and even entering) standby now. i've tried many times again and haven't encountered the issue yet...still can't say anything for sure for now judgin by my last hasty post..lol. will watch for a day or two and post back here what happens..

Jonathan, I followed the link you referred to concerning KB977178 as I wanted to try it. MS gives the choice to download 3 different version. I tried the first 2 (64 & 86) and every time I ran the fix I receive a message saying something like "This fix cannot be installed on this computer".
Did they maybe included that fix in SP1 or do we have another issue?

Was there an error code given at all? If so, what is it?

I really don't know if that hotfix was included in SP1, but I'd guess that it is.

pleased to report no more bsods/restarts for me since the past 24 hrs of many sleep/resume tests. i think its finally resolved.

In my case it went from worse to hell. Every time I got BSOD the system got a bit more corrupted and I ended up with "something parallel" errors which I found out later was related to C libraries (I believe).

Anyway, I got to a point where no application was running anymore and would get that message every time.

I reinstall Windows 7-64 and knock on wood thus far its waking up from sleep mode like a charm. This leads me to think the SSD might not have been guilty in the deal. It could have simply been Windows corruption.

I have not installed an antivirus yet so I will have to test again after installing Avast. I will post an update at that time.

It's now a couple days I have installed Avast back on my machine. The system went to sleep mode several times and woke up with no incident at all. I did on purpose to keep a bunch of windows opened and all came back fine.

Conclusion: when you start having issues with Windows don't waste your time trying to fix it...REINSTALL Windows.

And forget about the repair/restore, I tried that and actually got a very humorous (I thought) message that basically meant: "Oops I tried restoring your system but I failed and btw in the process I destroyed the restore file". Thank you Microsoft for your sense of humor...we surely appreciate in those bad moments.
