after experiencing my first BSOD i looked into the cause of it, reading several threads in this forum.
i have done the following:
Disc check - turns out no errors
Memory Check - says no errors
Registry errors fixed via norton utilities - i know these programs can miss things
system says the STOP error is caused by a driver - sftfslh.sys
another thread says to delete the driver but i do not know what this driver does and if deleting it will leave windows in an nonworking state.

sftslh.sys is a driver that is used in the Microsoft Application Virtualization File System.

I would recommend running an sfc/scannow command thrice in an elevated command prompt. Run each command followed by a reboot.

Also download and install the following hotfix for Microsoft Application Virtualization.
Hotfix Package 6 for Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.6 RTM: March 2011

Finally, do you use Microsoft Office? Also, what anti-virus/s do you use?

I have checked the systems files once, nothing came back. i also downloaded the hotfix, the files failed to extract, is there a special way to extract these?.

I've uploaded the extracted files. As the files are compressed into a .rar file, you'll have to right click the file and extract it with WinRAR. Then simply install the correct hotfix (x64 version, not x86).

there are two x64 based files, should i run them both or only one, if so which one

AppV4.6-RDS-KB2517187-x64
AppV4.6-WD-KB2517187-x64

RDS I know is Remote Desktop Services, as for WD, I can't be sure. It could however stand for Western Digital (very unlikely). For the moment, run both hotfixes starting with the WD one.

the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. verify that the program to be upgraded exsists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

that is the message that i recieve when trying each hotfix.

more helpful information:
when the STOP errors started the second time it happend it cleared all documents, music, pictures, and videos.
after that i did a factory default reset then it happend again and i began to look into the cause. so the factory default reset did not fix it.

never thought of it, but the errors didnt start until i installed the driver for a usb wifi adapter, when i ran verifier it picked out the driver as the sftfslh.sys, then i ran verifier without that driver and i still got the screen blaming that driver. in the system logs the wifi always has an issue before it happens aswell.

after the uninstallation of the device driver, the system seems to run more smoothly, and after investagation on the netgear website this adapter i have bought has caused other people problems aswell, in the system reliability log the wifi service failed shortly before the blue screen. i have switched to a hard wire connection im going to leave it running and see if i experience anymore blue screens. if you have anymore suggestions please let me know where to go if this does not solve the problem.

thanks for your help, and any future help and drop me some suggestions.
