Solved Bsod caused by USB3 driver

I have a weird problem with USB 3 drivers I think.

This is my configuration:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V
Cpu : Intel Core i5 3470
Ram : 8 Gb Corsair 1333 Mhz
Video: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2048MB DDR5 OC version
Hdd : Western Digital 640 GB 7200 Rpm
Case: Segotep SG-Z2
Power supply: Corsair 450VX

In device manager>>Universal Serial Bus controllers I have an Unknown Device. If I delete it then refresh for hardware changes I get BSOD. Only this way I get bsod.

If I connect my USB 3 external hdd to my front USB 3 slot I get a message Unrecognized USB device and it loops that message until I disconnect the device.

I installed the USB 3 drivers from the CD that came with the board and from gigabyte's site.

I see that the BSOD is related to iusb3hub.sys file but couldn't find any fixes yet.

This copy of windows is counterfeit, your product ID matches an Asus OEM_SLP key while your motherboard is a retail gigabyte model. This is only possible through a hackers exploit. Please purchase a legal copy of windows format and then reinstall with the new legal copy.

I have a legal copy of Windows 7 Professional SP1 but when I want to install it gives an error that no hard drives are found and I can't install it.

Are you choosing "Custom" during install? Format the existing partition and then create a new one to install too.

Are any USB devices apart from keyboard/mouse plugged in? If so, disconnect them first then install.

Hi there
I wouldn't say that the copy of Windows is Counterfeit -- it seems to be an OEM copy -- now unlike W8 you CANNOT transfer an OEM copy of Windows from one machine to another. You CAN however BUY an OEM copy (usually cheaper) with some hardware like a Mobo -- but the OEM product has to be licensed -- it will usually by the vendor you are buying the hardware from.

So while I wouldn't go as far as to say your version of Windows is not genuine - I would suggest that it's certainly unlicensed for the mobo you are trying to install it on.

I've managed to install Windows 7 Professional SP1 using my cd key but with an image downloaded from internet and it works now.

It's nice to have a transfer of 100+mb/s instead of 20-30mb/s

If the windows media you have installed which is counterfeit is not pre-activated, format and do a clean install with it, and then use the retail license that you have to activate it.

Installation media (if not pre-activated) does not make the windows installation counterfeit. It is the license that is used to activate the installation which plays the role there. If the license is a legit retail or OEM license, the installation is OK.

Like I've said all seems ok now but not quite.

After I connect the external hdd to usb 3 everything works ok but after some time it gets disconnected and that Unknown Device appears again. It's like the hdd is powering off or something like that.
If I disconnect the drive, wait a minute then connect it to usb 3 again, it works.

I also have like 80 important updates to install but I installed only that one first.

Thats fine .... You are good to go. Do all outstanding updates, Then see Arc suggestion about USB Selective Suspend.
