How long has it been since you had a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

If never then you're running on an inherently corrupt factory preinstall that lards sponsored bloatware and useless duplicate utilties onto the OS, throttling it from its native instantaneous state.

I would strongly consider the reinstall, or at least Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

Have you run the Dell Diagnostics lately? I'd try running it now by tapping the F12 key at boot to boot it to run.

Hi GregRocker, I have taken all actions as suggested, less clean reinstall.......... I've done clean up factory bloatware, run ccleaner, run malawarebytes, run puran defrag, still the problem remains and another issue is that at times the cursor does not stay where it is left, specially while typing, on its own it will start typing somewhere else...... I've still not run clean reinstall, as there is so much stuff that needs to be backed up, I wanted to try other options......
Any other suggestions.........

Have you tried another mouse, or updated the touchpad software from Dell's webpage for your tag number? I'd also check if you chipset it up to date.

Are all Important and Optional Updates done first after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)?

A Clean Reinstall is better than getting a new PC since most new PC's come larded with bloatware that corrupts and throttles the best OS ever. Most tech enthusiasts would never run such an install to begin with.

My automatic updates is already on and working.
I'm using the mouse pad of the laptop and as this machine is fairly new, bought in Jan 2012 and updated automatically.

I did use the laptop to download some torrents sometime ago and I'm wondering, maybe some virus is playing the tricks........... what say??

If in doubt about infection always run a full scan with updated Malwarebytes.

But running the factory preinstall is a level of corruption nearly equal to infection anyway. So yes I'd get the vastly superior Clean Reinstall. You are at the place which specializes in them, so why not?

hahaha just am not confident that I'll be able to do clean reinstall all by my self and what abt the back up of all my docus, pics, vdos, etc

and the Malwarebytes full scan was good...............

You should always have all of your files backed up as your HD can fail at any time. Use an external or other HD, another PC on the network, or upload 7gb free to Skydrive with each Windows Live ID.

Until you're ready make sure you've tried everything suggested so far in the thread and then work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Hi there,

It did take me some time, eventually the problem of laptop not shutting has been solved.

As advised, I backed up my data, did a clean reinstall, but the problem remained, then I got my laptop serviced and bingo, its back on track!!!

What was the exact cause discovered?

The probable cause is that besides os being corrupted, the machine was getting overheated and hence the clean reinstall and cleaning the fan did the trick.
