BSOD networking problem - STOP 01E

Hey Folks

I bought this top spec MESH PC in Dec '07, you can see my specs on my profile (i believe). I chose not to have Vista pre-installed and wanted to use XP until reviews etc improved.

I've installed Windows 7 Professional x64 and had no problems whatsoever; things ran perfectly and I was incredibly impressed. However, my problems began when I installed the drivers for my Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter (specs below).

I installed the drivers using the setup with no compatibility changes and got the BSOD. I then did some research and ran it in compatibility mode for the Belkin listed support OS and still no change; I continue to get the BSOD. I tried to figure it out myself by un-installing/re-installing and then running my PC with drivers installed but not using the internet.

I have found that the BSOD only occurs when I am active on the internet. When I load up google and start a search, it usually takes 3-5 seconds before the BSOD comes into effect.

I also tried installing v3 of the drivers and there was no change.

Apologies for the long post, I wanted to provide as much useful information as possible, there is a picture of the BSOD below.

EDIT: I've now discovered that I get 2 different BSOD.

I took a quick look at the last 4 dump files. although different files were the probable causes of the crash one thing seems to be evident. There seems to be a memory componenet. The bugcheck 24 is usually caused by faulty ram, and in 2 of the four I looked at there was also memory corruption. There are also some very old drivers dating from as far back as 2006.

Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Hardware incompatibility, Memory.

I suggest
update old drivers especiaolly the atheros
run an overnight memory test (memtest is built in)
If you are overclocking stop
Run a system file check. To run type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>
SFC /scannow
let us know the results

What do you mean by Atheros? I've heard of Atheros but I can't recall where from? I did try to find out for myself, is it the drivers on my router or my Belkin stick? Or am I on completely the wrong subject?

athrxusb.sys is an atheros driver it might be used by belkin as well. Is the belkin usb? If not I wonder why that driver was installed?

I've been to:ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows to download the drivers but I have no idea which drivers I need to download; i've had a quick look in my belkin manual but it doesn't mention anything atheros.

Do you have any ideas?

you may not want or need the atheros file. It may in fact be why the crash happened. Lets do this.get the belkin driver and install it. then do a search for the atheros file name. when you find the atheros try renaming it to athrxusb.BAK so it cant load. if you boot ok and have no problems it may have contributed. the rest of the things like SFC and memtest should be done anyway

EDIT also this is just one problem. hopefully the memory test will give some answers but you have a bunch of BSOD's

I renamed the file and funnily enough, it stopped my usb wifi stick working completely. I renamed it back and it works again; however, the BSOD still happens when I access the internet, but this time; it's different...again. It mentions: REFERENCE_BY_POINTER. If you would like a picture of this, just let me know.

I'll run memtest now to see what happens? What do you mean memtest is built in? Does that mean I don't have to download the bootable version?

EDIT: I'm running the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool as I type. Is that what you mean?

I completed the SFC scan and it said: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation."

I'll run memtest, tonight. Was I running the correct memtest or should I get it from the memtest website?

That's the Belkin USB driver - the chipset is made by Atheros.

Cool.. I ran the Windows Memory Diagostic tool and it came back saying: "No memory errors were detected."

I'm really stuck and am really keen to get windows seven working, does anyone have any ideas as to solve my issues?
