Solved BSOD on Restart, Error 0x1e

Hello,

It seems I can't get a break with the laptop I have.

What I did so far
1. I tested the single RAM module (4GB) with Memtest86+, no errors, I ran several passes
2. I tested the CPU using Prime95, no problem there.
3. An IT specialist took the laptop apart, changed the thermal paste on the processor, cleaned everything etc. etc.
4. Formated the laptop several times

What I didn't do yet
5. I didn't install all the Windows updates, because every time I restart the laptop crashes, so I guess it doesn't make a difference.

Now the problem
Every time I restart the laptop the first time it crashes right when the Windows logo screen appears, then when I choose start Windows normally it starts up okay.

I analyzed the crash dumps myself but the only thing I could see is that it says VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT and lists rdyboost.sys as the probable cause.

I updated all the drivers to the latest versions I could find (even the display driver is being updated right now, but I did that during some of the earlier formats and it didn't help).

I'm including the crash dump files and everything in the zip below. I hope there's a solution to this problem without me having to throw the laptop into the dumpster.

Hi MersauX. How many passes you ran memtest86+? It is usually suggested to run it for at least 7-8 passes.

Initially, seeing your crash dumps, it is appearing that the issue is with the storage controllers.

Similarly, there are error events pointing to Drive1, too.

Your storage controller is Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller (c:\windows\system32\drivers\iastor.sys). We have seen it to fail many a times, whereas the system native storage controllers (msahci.sys) never fails on itself. Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
2. It will open the "computer management" window.
3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

Also, scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.

• Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
• Windows Defender Offline

These two scans are needed, as ataport.sys is also failing, and it is highly vulnerable to a particular type of malware, called rootkit.

Change the SATA and cables. Apply them to the unused slots on the motherboard. Make it sure that there is no bent pin in the HDD's port. Also make it sure that the DD is properly screwed; all the screws are tightened properly.

Finally, test your HDD using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows. Sometimes the storage errors may me expressed as controller errors.

Thank you for your advice, in the meantime I installed Windows 8.1 to test things out and it's working perfectly fine, so I guess it was a driver issue, the laptop was sold today, so this thread can get a lock.
