BSOD once. Logon freezes. notskrnl.exe

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64
- the original installed OS on the system
- OEM OS
- Laptop 2 years old
- OS never reinstalled

I was waiting to join a customer service chat with ROKU. The BSOD came while I was just waiting. The computer rebooted and now I cannot get past the logon screen. I can put my password in and hit enter and it will start to log in but will hang forever at the welcome page. Then it freezes. I can boot to safe mode but I cannot run the perfmon /report. It says "The system cannot find the path specified".

Now I was able to log on

I have been able to log on once now and was able to run the performance monitor. Unfortunately I am unable to get norton running.

Please uninstall Norton following the instructions for the Norton Removal Tool Then re-install Norton, or install Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows to run in its place with Windows Firewall enabled.

Were you able to log into your computer and get everything running normally again? Was Norton removed? Let us know if you need any further assistance.

I'm sorry I never got back to you. I ended up just re installing. I was not able to get it running consistently. I kind of like having a clean install. I appreciate the help you have given me.
