I have no idea. I have an Asus board and flashing is simple. Extract the downloaded file to a USB, go into bios, select easy flash it will read the file and ask if you are sure, click yes and in about 1-2 minutes, it's done. How Gigabyte does it, I don't know. Some of the older boards were slightly dangerous, but the newer boards are much safer and easier. It makes it even safer when you get a board with dual bios chips too.

I've asked for someone else to come look at the dump files I said I couldn't get anything from. Driver Verifier is supposed to make it crash which is why we emphasize a restore point, But, the point is, it is supposed to make it crash and trap the offending driver. I can't see where it trapped anything. I'll be honest. If it were my board, I would do a clean install and just start everything over. Wipe the disk completely clean and start over. Start off with a clean slate, and it is not as bad as many people say if you prepare for it. Get all your installation disks, activation numbers, installers you have to download, and your Drivers. The longest part will be installing updates unless you have a hardware problem.

I will say, something is not quite right with your rig. There is absolutely no way 8 passes of memtest should take you 20 hours. My backup rig will do it in about 9. When you run memtest, the OS, hard drive nor drivers are involved in any way. It runs completely out of ram. You've run memtest, I would run your hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic program, depending on what CPU cooler you have, run Prime95 (tests the CPU) and run Furmark to test the Graphics card. Then if you pass all of those, it is either the PSU or the motherboard, if you do, in fact, have a problem. Windows 7 is not XP, and installations go pretty quick and easy.

My take on it, and the way I do mine. I'll try to fix it, but you can search for weeks just to find the problem and more time trying to fix it. If I can't fix mine in a couple of hours, I do a clean install. Once I get the drivers and updates done, I can be back in operation in a couple more hours usually. That's not all of the software I'll load, but I can be pretty functional pretty quick. All the hardware tests I ask you to run, I run them all the time, just so I know my rig is solid. With no hardware problems, a clean install is not a big deal. As I see it with my rig, I can spend weeks and weeks trying to find the problem and fix it, or spend less than a day and be fully functional.

tell me the manufacturer of your hard drive and I may have the link to the diagnostic program. ahere is the link to Furmark for the video card stress test. The only exception I make with the tutorial, is Speedfan is out for me. I use EVGA Precision X. But, with any stress test, you have to watch it constantly. The temps will go very high, very fast. If they go too high, stop the test. That goes for Furmark and Prime95. I use Core Temp for Prime95.

If you do decide to rebuild I will be willing to help with that. Just if you are an AMD fan, I'm not great on that but do know a little about then and know some people who are excellent with them. I'm not a fanboy of either side, I'm a performance nut. I used to have AMD, but went the Intel route. The day AMD comes out with a CPU that can beat Intel, I will be back with AMD. So, you decide which is best for your budget and what you want it to do. Tell me and I'll try to get you a few choices.

I'll have to look into the hard drive tomorrow and see what I can find.

Do you have the links for these tests? Also what are we hoping to find with the tests?

I'm not an AMD fan and only thought of it like Chevy and Ford. If it comes down to rebuilding I appreciate the help!

I'll need to know the manufacturer of the hard drive to let you know. Device manager, expand the disk drives should at least give you the model number. This is a pretty good test for any drive Seatools for DOS, The instructions are below the link. You boot into the CD or USB drive you create. SeaTools for DOS | Seagate

CPU test, but it is brutal. If you are using the stock cooler, you will have heat problems. Free Software: Prime95 download - PrimeNet

You will notice that those drivers are seriously outdated. If you can update them from the motherboard or the card manufacturer I would. The athrx.sys should be updated from the manufacturer, otherwise from http://www.atheros.cz/

The Rt64Win7 is Realtek RTL8168D/8111D Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC and should be able to be updated from your motherboard web site.

Hm. I just plugged it in for the first time yesterday. Why would something like that cause the entire system to fail?

OMG..... Is it possible that it's Google Chrome? That's the only constant that I can think of.

How do you read these to find out what the cause was?

Here's the latest after I unplugged that camera.

Which is the DirectX from Windows. You can check if you have the latest version here, but I suspect you do and this was a victim of the graphics driver. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113

Hey Essenbe, long time :)

I'm still consistently having crashes, maybe once every few days or so. This was the latest. Just wanting to see if anything has changed?

Well, hello again jrowles91. It's good to hear from you again, just unfortunately it is from under these circumstances. What have you done with the computer during these past 2 Months since we last communicated? Have you done any hardware or software changes or diagnostic tests?

It has been so long and I have had so many BSOD threads, I couldn't remember what we had or have not done. I have re read this entire thread a couple of times. I am not sure how or why, but I think I have let you down seriously. I apologize for doing that. It is not my style. I should have done you a better job. You have my sincerest apology. If you would like, I would like to just start over as though we had done nothing and begin again. Or, if you would prefer, I will get another person from the BSOD team to come help you. I would not blame you in the least if you ask for someone else. Whichever you choose to do, please do a few things before you start. No matter who helps you, there is some information that needs to be available to them.

I know you have updated some hardware and changed a few things around during this process, which I bungled. So, I would like you to look at the bottom of your last post and in the bottom left corner, click 'My System Specs'. There will be a link there you can click on to update them. Please make sure they are up to date and correct. Please list everything you can and everything attached to your computer complete with Manufacturer ad Model number. What we like is the information we can look up any component we need to check out. We need to do that on many occasions and it should be available on every post you make. It makes it easier on us to not have to go look for it in some post 3 or 4 pages back. If you make any changes, please make sure you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click save. If you want to know what we are looking for, please click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post and see mine.

Next, I would like you to download and install CPUz (CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting) I would like you to post screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, memory and SPD tabs. On the SPD tabs you can select each Dimm Slot from a dropdown box in the upper left of that tab. We only need the Dimm slots that have Ram in them. The others will be blank. This will tell you how to post screenshots. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html .

Please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

If you don't know and understand anything I have asked you to do, do not hesitate to ask. I don't mind giving better instructions or explaining what I ask you to do and why. That does not bother me at all. Feel free to ask me anything.

I would like you to download GPUz (GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility) You can either install it or extract it to a folder and run it from there. I would like you to post a screenshot of the main tab and the sensor tab. All of the programs I am asking you to download are free, but in order to make money, many of them get advertising money from offering you other things along with it which you do not want. Always read what they are doing and uncheck any boxes for those add on programs which you do not want.

The reason I am asking for all of this information is whoever you decide you would like to help you will be able to look at your system specs and the screenshots of these programs and have a pretty good idea of what you have and how it is set up. That way we be better able to help you. Most of what I am asking for are standard programs that are used by almost everyone. I have and use each of them frequently, along with several other programs we may ask you to use later on. none of us will ever ask you to install anything that would damage your computer or operating system unless you do not use them the proper way.

Again, I apologize for dropping the ball. I sort of think I got sidetracked by finding drivers and bios updates. But I should have started off this way so I would have had a better idea of what was happening inside your system. All I or any other BSOD Team Member ask is that you don't get ahead of us, and that if we ask you to run a test, please run it and tell us the results. Please don't get ahead of us and let us know what is happening. Also, please realize we cannot see or hear what's going on, so it is difficult on this end of the computer. We have to depend on you to be our eyes and ears and tell us what is happening.
