BSOD only while playing games (clock interrupt not received)

So i've been getting very regular blue screens only while playing games, and I thought it was about time to try and fix this as it has been happeneing nearly every 10-15 minutes after playing. (specifically the games played are bf3, arma 2, guild wars 2 and counterstrike global offensive).

The error I get on the blue screen is "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval" and it's the exact same message every time. Sometimes my computer will lock up and play a horrible sounding noise (sounds a bit like "errrrrrrrttttt") it will mostly BSOD shortly after but sometimes it even comes back. I downloaded blue screen viewer and it seems from there that a driver called "ntoskrnl.exe" is the main culprit, however some other drivers are showing up as the cause, this one (ntoskrnl.exe) seems to be the main one causing it. I've attched the mini dump files for the last 5 blue screens.

My system specs are:

OS: Windows 7 ult 64bit
GPU: Ati Raedeon 6850HD
CPU: i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz
Memory: 8gb ripjawsX (2x4gb)
PSU: 700w corsair (cant quite remember)
Mobo: Asus Intel LGA1155 P8P67-M PRO
directX 11
HDD: 60GB SSD with operating system on (ocz vertex II) 2TB internal storage (has all games on)

Note that this is a custom build built by myself, I have never overclocked this setup all the bios settings are default, the bios is fully up-to-date, latest video drivers etc. It ran fine for a month or two after first building this. I've done stress tests on both the CPU and the graphics card and both seemed fine under loading, temperature of the CPU and GPU never goes higher than 67 degrees, and idles at around 32degrees.

Please uninstall all Daemon Tools software, as this is a known cause for problems.

But this could be a possible overheating. So make sure ALL of your fans are running while the computer is turned on.

Could also be a hardware problem, so give this a go:

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.

  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:
    • SSD firmware
    • BIOS Version
    • Chipset Drivers
    • Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
    • If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

  • Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.
  • Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
    Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.​

  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

    For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
    Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Thanks for the fast reply, I have so far uninstalled Daemon tools and tested playing a game and my pc still crashes, after doing this I have scanned for driver errors using driver Genius and it seems I have a LOT of drivers out of date, so I will fix this and report back.

Been doing some of the tests in your post and the GPU stress test and memory test were fine, all drivers seem to be up-to-date, however when running prime95 the CPU temp gets to about 89-90 degrees after a couple of minutes testing but I ALLWAYS monitor my CPU temps when playing games or doing anything and I've never seen it reach that high before, not sure If i want to leave it on for a few hours at 90 degrees cos that will most likely ruin it?

Ran memtest86+ last night, went through 11 passes and zero errors, is there anyone who can take a detailed look at the minidump files? I havent tried reformatting my pc yet, which could work if theres a corrupt operating system file.

Thanks for the reply, ok I've now attached a new file as per the BSOD posting instructions which should help. So far the things I have tested are, CPU, GPU+video memory) RAM and both of my hard drives with seaTools.

Also I did infact clear the CMOS by taking the battery out of the motherboard for a few minutes, because I had played around with the in-built "turbo" feature in the BIOS before. However I have not had a bluescreen since my original post but what I have had multiple times is my computer freezing up while playing the games listed. When this happens it plays a horrible noise down the speakers, and the only way to recover from that is a hard reset as the whole computer just freezes.

Did it happen while only playing the game? The crash files shows Guild Wars 2 was running during the crash. Does it happen outside the game?

Also, please use the SF tool to get ALL files so I can do a better analysis of this problem.

Hey thanks for your reply, i've used the SF tool and attached the latest information with this post. I would just like to add that I have recently reformatted and only installed my game and the neccessary drivers, and while playing, my computer locked up and then gave me a BSOD with the same error message as before. And as you said guild wars 2 was running at the time of the crash and it only ever happens while playing games, its NEVER happened while on the desktop or doing anything other than playing a game.

Small update, had two more crashes today (mini dumps attached) this is after fully updating windows. same BSOD error "a clock interrupt was not received...." Monitoring my temperatures before the crash and my GPU was around 57 degrees and CPU about 61 degrees.

Please install drivers for these. You should be able to get them through the Windows Updates.

It's possible this could be a hardware problem with your SSD. But for now I would like to think it's not. Or your computer just don't like GW2.

Are these degrees F, or C?

Also have you tried flashing your BIOS?
Update your BIOS after everything else, run the game, and then post back if it BSODs again. I am doing a lot of reading on this crash.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled driver genius, however I cannot find the other drivers via windows update that you mentioned, would these come with the install disk for my motherboard by any chance? The temperatures are in degrees Celsius, I have also already flashed my bios.

EDIT: Just checked for windows updates and it seems I have installed every update appart from the optional language packs.

I looked at the link for the keyboard drivers and found my one, however there doesn't seem to be any available drivers for it here's the link Software Downloads: Reclusa

I have already done all of those hardware tests; CPU, GPU + video memory, both hard drives, RAM, etc. with no errors found. Is there a possibility that my graphics card could be faulty as the error refers to a secondary processor? I just had another bluescreen about 10 minutes into playing a game (counterstrike Global offensive) with the same error - minidump attached.

I'll see if I have another keyboard and report back, I ran the SF tool again and attached the results, had 1 crash yesterday.

new update, used a brand new keyboard and installed the proper driver that came with it. Had no crashes for a day or two and just had one while playing a game, temperatures were fine at the time so I ran the SF tool again and i've attached the files. Any more help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

EDIT: Note that the crash started with a lockup (computer froze and unable to press anything) a loud buzzing sound came through my speakers, then it crashed. A few minutes before this my computer was freezing for like a split second and then coming back also with the buzzing noise.
