bsod playing ddo but don't think its game related

Great, just run it as long as you're used to when you're using Windows. Browse the web, download some stuff, use it. Ubuntu is an OS yes, it's based on the Debian Linux which means Ubuntu is a distribution of it.

It's one of the most well-known.

Best Regards,
Frederik.

no, opening the ddo game client is what causes it to bsod i couldnt open ddo while in unbuntu because of a an error saying something about a .zip file

on another note i have been playing browser based games and have just experienced a bsod while playing one so i guess it has to be related to my graphix card or something, is it possible for my graphix card to go bad and would i still be able to run certain things and not others that i use to? because i don't get what has suddenly happened to my comp in the middle of nowhere it just started blue-screening i wasn't downloading anything or doing anything i that i didnt do everyday

and another question is if i play a browser based game in ubuntu and it requires me to download flash or java will it need to install to the usb or it must since it said i was missing the add-ons (and i definitely have them) im only asking because my flashdrive is getting pretty full

The Linux Kernel cannot read Windows-based files unless you use software in Ubuntu like Wine. If you can open other games, it might be the games that's buggy or so.

on another note i have been playing browser based games and have just experienced a bsod while playing one so i guess it has to be related to my graphix card or something, is it possible for my graphix card to go bad and would i still be able to run certain things and not others that i use to?

I don't think so, anything is possible of course. Though, I think you have another situation.
and another question is if i play a browser based game in ubuntu and it requires me to download flash or java will it need to install to the usb or it must since it said i was missing the add-ons (and i definitely have them) im only asking because my flashdrive is getting pretty full

It's cool, no need to play games in Ubuntu. I just wanted you to go around in the system.

==============================================================

Here's some things I want you to try. I didn't remember if you had a Nvidia card or ATI. You can make your way to Windows again, and stop diagnosing in Ubuntu.

Nvidia
i) Make your way to Nvidia Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and download the latest driver for your card, save it to your desktop for instance.
ii) Uninstall the Graphic driver you currently have and all its extensions (do not reboot yet)
iii) Download Driver Sweeper
iv) Get to safe mode (without network) and search for Driver Sweeper in your :orb:
v) Select all the Nvidia components and analyse them
vi) Clean them, head into Windows without internet and install the driver you downloaded previously.
[/INDENT]
2) ATI tutorial

ATI
i) Make your way to ATI Drivers - Downloads and download the latest driver for your card, save it to your desktop for instance
ii) Uninstall the Graphic driver you currently have and all its extensions (do not reboot yet)
iii) Download Driver Sweeper
iv) Get to safe mode (without network) and search for Driver Sweeper in your :orb:
v) Select all the ATI components and analyse them
vi) Clean them, head into Windows without internet and install the driver you've downloaded previously.
Direct-X

There's also some pointers to your Direct-X files. Option one is that it could be the Direct-X files. Option two is that it could be a part of the Windows system files, as Direct-X is a part of that. To be one the safe side, update your Direct-X files.

Download: DirectX End-User Runtime - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

Frederik.

okay i thought that you wanted me to run a program that would usually bsod me in ubuntu to see if it was a windows issue or a hardware issue

either way yes i was playing around and doing some research, and just to play what is usually a browser based game i had to download a thin client, and download wine, and download playonlinux, and do all kinds of things, cant imagine what i would have to do to play ddo or probably just the same process, only i got the wmail about your responce b4 i could get the game working so i stopped the process, btw where are those applets stored? i guess i wont be needing any of that stuff anymore

i will be busy with your most recent instructions tyvvvm for continuing to make suggestions and bearing with me as i sure you are fed up with me

okay so i dont think i have either of those GPUs ive included some photos of my dxdiag to ask you something. The first screen says bios 1.00 but as you can see i have downloaded bios that appear more recent and got errors installing them saying my bios setting were newer, as you probably dont remember as you are dealing with another hundred or so cases like mine (i assume) but i also included those screenshots iirc awhile back, actually looking over this i don't remember having dx 11 it must of updated asp well either way im doing the dx update u recommended these are my specs b4 starting

edit: in bios itself it says that it is ver 1.90 even though there is a ver 2.2 available as well it wouldn't let me install it saying that it was already the current version which it obviously is not. and with dxdiag saying bios is ver 1.00 when it is actually 1.90 makes me not sure you can trust everything it says, also the display driver says its older then it should be since i DL'd one from toshiba at the start of this thread

i know you are afk but here are my current frustrating results, also two questions

1. is it possible that while downloading eve online it came with an update to dx11 from 9.0c and that is what is messing with my system

2. if that is possible, how would it still be set to dx11 when i did a out-of-box reset unless it is trying to auto update im pretty sure i use to have 9.0c but maybe im just crazy

sorry for all the frantic posts but i have to claim a prize in game and use it before august 20th and i dont see that happening

No, not at all. I just wanted you to play around with it and see if it would crash.

Which ones? Your data on Ubuntu? You can use it anywhere as long as your flash drive stays the same.

No problem at all mate! :)

I'd definitely tell Toshiba this. I have never experienced anything like that.

1. is it possible that while downloading eve online it came with an update to dx11 from 9.0c and that is what is messing with my system

Popular games like Eve may not mess up things like this. If you buy a game, it's likely that it'll reinstall DirectX and it's basically a Microsoft provided utility, or at least it's a Microsoft product. By that, I mean that it shouldn't mess things up.

2. if that is possible, how would it still be set to dx11 when i did a out-of-box reset unless it is trying to auto update im pretty sure i use to have 9.0c but maybe im just crazy

Nothing crazy about you! It's not possible as far as I'm concerned.

===========================================================

It's quite normal that it says a newer version of DirectX is already installed. If this happens, I'd try downloading DirectX one by one from Filehippo.

Download DirectX 9.0c (Jun 10) - FileHippo.com

Sorry for a messy post!

Best Regards,
Frederik.

okay so i have been gone for a bit and i have been working with the people over at toshiba trying to resolve my issue, let me just start off by saying toshiba's customer support is horrible and every person i talked to first started me off with "your model is not under warranty" and when i said i just wanted to ask a few questions to see if i could get my system running they reluctantly helped after first trying to convince me that it was a windows error and not toshiba i finally got someone willing to help after a couple calls and some serious hold time, so as for the issue that arose from our troubleshooting this is what i got for an answer. Apparently since my display driver was last updated in 09 thats because that is the last time toshiba updated it not when i DL'ed it, and he also said that 1.9 is the most recent bios for my pc even though they have a 2.2 that came up when i typed in my machine he said that it wasn't for my pc and that it was a mistake that it came up. After i told him about our trouble shooting and that the problem was not a windows related issue he finally referred me to a toshiba repair center about 40 mins from my house and told me that it was most likely a hardware related issue (which i already assumed from the beginning) so like i said it is a decent drive (in a car) to get there and they want an arm and a leg to troubleshoot, so the reason i came back here is to ask a question or two since you seem to be the most knowledgeable and caring of the any of the people i have encountered

so 1 is there a way i can trouble shoot hardware without having extra hardware lying around (beside RAM which we tested with memtest and which is the only extra hardware i have lying around) i was already thinking of updating the gpu b4 any of these problems arose. or am i just stuck paying almost half of what i paid for the computer to have it troubleshot

and 2 do u have any suggestions on hardware i might want to invest in as you seem to know your stuff

:info: Be sure to check your warranty rules and regulations before opening your case.
* Memtest86+ is USB-ready, and can be booted directly from it. Download the flashdrive wizard.
* To ensure that either your sticks OR your motherboard slots are broken, it's necessary to do the below procedure-
* Pull out all sticks except ONE, scan it.
* If no errors, pull the scanned stick into another slot.
* Proceed like this until you've scanned all sticks individually, and all the slots.[/B]

okay so you probably don't remember this as it was about a month ago and u answer many posts but I successfully ran memtest for about 30 something passes and came up with 0 errors however i only ran it with both sticks intact and didn't test them individually if that matters? actually have a few old laptops around and ram is actually the hardware i have extras of and are the easiest for me to get a hold of

(i actually have a computer with a broken screen that i have a screen for that i accidentally dropped a screw into mid installation but that's for another time and another thread)

GPU
i ran furmark and it caused a bsod after a short period and i could hardly get any fps at all is this a sign that my gpu is faulty?

CPU
i am in the process of DL'n prime atm and it says to run for two hours figured id give you this update to see if im wasting time by running it i can receive alerts on my android if you respond in case i cant use the pc at the same time that prime is running

P.S
i searched out 0x0000001E on TechNet Library Home and found a thread in which someone was experiencing bsod from a faulty keyboard (although he was using a desktop and i have a laptop) but from time to time my numpad sometimes works and sometimes doesn't figured id throw out that info in case it helps you diagnose my problem

yes i am a gamer and suddenly my system has been acting up and progressing i cant even watch youtube videos anymore without a bsod i am thinking it might just be cheaper at this point to just pick up a new system i have no idea what has gone wrong my system went from working immaculately to not working at all in the blink of an eye among no changes to drivers or anything and is still crashing even though it has been returned to out of box factory settings and no i only let prime run for like 20 mins before my system seemed to be getting incredibly hot and i was unable to monitor temps during furmark as it took up the whole screen and minimizing it cause it to turn black and only way to get it running again was to bring it into the foreground and minimize speed fan

Your laptop is out of warranty yes? Have you contacted Toshiba regarding this? Explain the whole situation or link to this thread. It sounds like some hardware is not working as it should. They definitely have more knowledge on this as it's their own piece of work.
If you don't feel comfortable doing so just let me know, I just thought as you live in the US it'd be no problem with fees and so on and so forth.

Feel free to share your conversation with Toshiba when you got it sorted.

toshiba could care less about me!! the couple of weeks i was away from this thread i was in contact with them and almost everyone there started the convo with the fact that my system was out of warranty and that there was very little they could do for me, they wanted nothing to do with reading this thread or going over any of the troubleshooting steps i had taken (I tried to get them to read this tread to better understand my problem) almost everyone there brushed me off to someone else who had the same advice, finally i got someone who told me that my bios and display drivers were both up to date and that my problem was most likely a hardware issue and that there was nothing he could do for me aside from helping me find a toshiba certified repair center that has overpriced services for things i could have done at any local pc repair shop, was hoping i could just troubleshoot what hardware was faulty and replace it myself guessing its going to be more complicated than that

That's one odd way of supporting. All I can say is, the Furmark test made it pretty obvious for me. If it couldn't get to show any frames, I think it's a culprit, for now so to say. You've made Clean Installs several of times yes?
