Solved BSOD Random Apps, Code: 0x116 (VIDEO_TDR_ERROR)

Hello,

My PC is currently haunted by VIDEO_TDR_ERROR bluescreen for a couple of days. Mostly happened when I opened up my Dota 2, Bluestacks or just random timing like watching youtube. I also received errors from the event viewer recently which stated: The description for Event ID 65535 from source STacSV cannot be found.

The following information was included with the event:
Connection to the Storage interface failed
The message id for the desired message could not be found

I'm not quite sure if this error is related to the BSOD but instead of BSOD, this error caused total black screen which forced me to hard reset my PC. Usually this happened after >10 hours runtime and occurs whenever I opened Dota 2 or any other games

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers guys!

*Edit: The reason I don't have the latest driver is because of the Eject Bug which always occurs whenever I tried to open games such as Fallout 4 or Arkham Knight and oeople have been saying that this error only occurs in newer driver version and I've been using DDU to revert or update my driver version.

Hello andranos.

The BugCheck 0x116 is a video TDR error, an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.

The faulting module was nvlddmkm.sys and as we can see below you are running a very old driver.

[COLOR=Red]24/02/2016[/COLOR] 2:58:05 AM  C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\nvlddmkm.sys

You need to uninstall the drivers with DDU:

Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 17.0.1.1

It is recommended to be in Safe Mode when using DDU, here's a tutorial if needed:

And after that you can run CCleaner to clean out anything that is left:

And then install the latest drivers from here:

As I stated in my post, the eject bug always occurs whenever I update my driver to the latest version which is why I'm reverting back to the most stable version (362.00) according to the community. There's still no workaround for the eject bug so I'm hoping I could stick with this version. Thanks!

Oh right, I'm sorry should have done more background research.

I saw someone on Reddit having the exact same issue and for him the solution was to get a new card. For him his GTX 970 was physically broken.

but who knows, on the Reddit topic the user had also been in contact with NVIDIA and they didn't even know what caused this error, granted this was 10 months ago. Maybe they have now released an update.

Another suggestion was to try the answer given by someone on the GeForce Forums:

I don't think it would hurt to try and update the BIOS, it might have something to do with the error:

ASrock Z97 Extreme 6

You are on version P1.60 and the latest is P2.70.
