I awoke to a blue screen of death (BSOD) this morning. I'm unable to run the BSOD tool to provide more info because Windows won't boot at all.

specs: Win7 64bit home premium. HP P7-1254 with AMD quad cord A6-3620. Other specs listed in my profile.

I haven't installed any new hardware or software on this computer, except Chrome about 2-3 weeks ago.

The BSOD errors: IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop: 0x0000000A (0xFFFFFA81B4DE3838, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xFFFFF800178B4881

What I've tried:

Booting in safe mode: BSOD
safe mode with command prompt: BSOD
safe mode with networking: BSOD
last known configuration: constantly reboots
booting normally: constantly reboots
System restore: BSOD
Attempted to run using HP recovery disks (two different disk sets) but ended in BSOD.

I made a recovery disk on a working computer with same OS, and tried using that to boot, but it also ended in BSOD.

The final driver that shows on the screen when loading in safe mode is AVG...sys so I suspect that a corrupt AVG driver may have done something to prevent booting up.

At this point all the walkthroughs suggest reinstalling Windows 7. As system restore on this computer from the hidden partition won't run (nor from DVD) I'm not sure what options I have.

This computer is out of warranty by a long shot. My thinking is that if I could somehow manually edit the settings to disable AVG in the msconfig startup then it would load properly (clean boot) while I uninstall AVG. But perhaps this is a long shot. I'm open to placing the hard drive in a working computer to make manual changes if necessary. If I could get a command prompt, then perhaps I could try this:
Changing msconfig without windows [Solved] - Msconfig - Windows 7

Any ideas?

BSOD in safe mode is a clear sign of hardware failure, I recommend to try the tests below.

Diagnostics Test

 HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
Run following tests
  1. Short Drive Self Test
  2. Short generic
  3. Long generic
If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.

   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Forums

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

axe0, Thanks for the reply! I feared it was a hardware issue but was hoping for a software issue only. I'll try the tests you mentioned to see if I can pinpoint the problem, hopefully early next week.
