Hello,
For the past few days, my laptop has been giving me a BSOD whenever it wakes up after having the lid shut for a long time. In other words, it only happens if the computer completely goes to sleep (to the point of having to hit the power button to wake it up. It doesn't seem to happen if the lid has only been shut for a few minutes.). Usually, it happens right after I log in.
I'm afraid I don't have the error code from the BSOD.

My system specs are:
Lenovo G470 laptop
Intel Core i3-2310M CPU
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel HD graphics 3000
(Please let me know if you need more details on the system spec
I haven't changed anything lately, and I'm up to date as far as service packs, Windows Updates, etc.

I thought maybe it was a driver issue, so I let Windows Updates fetch the optional driver updates that had been issued for my system. That didn't help. I also ran a full chkdsk yesterday afternoon, which didn't appear to find anything.

Please find my dumps attached. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard.

According to Carrona.org, STOP 0x0000003B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTIONhttp://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#top
Usual causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, memory

You need to do two things ....

► Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Hi,
I ran the driver verifier program. Since my laptop was shut all afternoon, I encountered the BSOD once I turned it back on. This produced a much longer error message. Here are two things that I wrote down from it:
STOP: 0x000000C9
and pxHlpa64.sys, which appears to have something to do with Roxio.

Do I need to upload the dump files again?

I'll run the memtest tonight.

Thanks!

What you have found is right.

pxHlpa64.sys is supplied by a lot of programs, and Roxio is one of them. So you know what to do there :)

Rest is on you. If you can solve the rest of the issue, you do. If you need assistance, let us know.

But, inform us about the issue, if it persists or not.

So I should uninstall Roxio, then?

Any idea why this would just start happening all of the sudden? I've been using Roxio Creator DE with Windows 7 x64 for quite a while and never had a problem.

You have installed a very old version of Roxio.
Code:
lmvm pxHlpa64
start end module name
fffff880`012e9000 fffff880`012f42c0 PxHlpa64 (deferred)
    Image path: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\PxHlpa64.sys
   [COLOR=Red] Image name: PxHlpa64.sys
    Timestamp: Tue Jul 25 05:48:43 2006 [/COLOR](44C56363)
    CheckSum: 00013DE7
    ImageSize: 0000B2C0
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
First, update Roxio's version.

Then, Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Is it still causing problems?

**If update is not possible (cost), uninstall it.

Actually this driver monitors your optical disc drives.

Guilty as charged. I got this one for free for doing some training a few years ago. The automatic updates for it don't work anymore. I don't see anything related to Roxio or Sonic in the msconfig startup tab. I think what I'll do is just uninstall it and then see what happens when I open the lid tomorrow morning (the problem doesn't occur during restarts, and I need the computer to be on today so that I can finish my dissertation :)). I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for all of your help!

Ok, I uninstalled Roxio and shut the lid for the night. When I turned it back on today, I didn't get a BSOD! So, I think it's fixed now. Thanks for the help!

Nice that it is not crashing anymore, but bad that you needed to uninstall Roxio.
