BSOD/Weird Distorted Crash while playing games or browsing

I will turn on Driver Verifier and see what that can lead me to. If I get a crash, I will link to the minidump and upload another bluescreen view text.

Alright so I used Driver Verifier and I got a BSOD about 20 minutes in use on the computer.

I have uploaded a zip with the results of the system health report, and the results of the "BSOD dump and system file collection app". All the dmps including the recent one with Verifier should be in there.

I have also uploaded another text from bluescreen view.

Problematic Software:

Start Menu\Programs\DriverMax	Public:Start Menu\Programs\DriverMax	Public

We do not recommend automated driver update software. It often finds drivers for devices similar to but not exactly the same as the hardware actually on the system. This can lead to conflicts and blue screen crashes. If you need help finding driver updates for a certain device, please start a thread in Drivers - Windows 7 Forums instead of using software. Driver updates are not always necessary and some updates can actually decrease system stability rather than increase it, so it is usually better not to update unless a device or its driver is causing problems with the system. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.


Your Verifier enabled crash points to MagicDisc. This is uncommon, so I suspect the installation is corrupted or you do not have the most recent version. Disable Verifier using the steps given by zigzag3143. Download a fresh installation file from their site: Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview. Then uninstall your version through Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program. Finally, install the downloaded version.


Your other crashes indicate hard disk errors and a graphics card/DirectX issue.

• Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html.
  For any drives that do not give the message:
  Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
  run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
  Windows has made corrections to the file system
  after running the disk check, run the disk check again.
  
  
• Use the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tools to test whether your drive is functioning properly.
  
  
• Try re-installing DirectX using the Download: DirectX Redist (June 2010) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details and see how the system responds.
  
  Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.
  
  1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For AMD:
     • Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
     • If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers:
       1. Click Start Menu
       2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
       3. Click Manage
       4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
       5. Expand Display adapters
       6. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
          • Right click the adapter
          • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
          • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
          
          Alternatively:
          1. Login as an adminstrative user
          2. Click Start Menu
          3. Click Control Panel
          4. Click Hardware and Sound
          5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
          6. Expand Display adapters
          7. Do the following for each adapter (in case you have multiple display cards)
             • Right click the adapter
             • Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
             • Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
     • Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
     • Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

I just had a few questions.'
When I reinstall DirectX do I have to uninstall current versions, or does it just overwrite (from your download link)?
Will any of the drivers from drivermax be left over after the program is uninstalled, and will they cause any problem?

DirectX should install over the top without issue. It cannot be removed since it is a part of the Windows 7 operating system.
It does not appear DriverMax did any damage, but we will need to go through some driver troubleshooting to be sure if you continue to have crashes.

Apparently, since Windows had to make corrections, I will try on getting a new scan done by today or tommorow. Results will be in.


As for scanning my HDD, I already installed Seagate Seatools for Windows and did at least 3 long scans with it, and they all said nothing was wrong with my HDD, but I will try the WD one as well and come back with feedback.

As for Video Card drivers, I will try to uninstall (driver sweeper etc) and reinstall off AMD.com.

I have also installed the DirectX run time link you gave me. Though it did extract a bunch of rars into a destination folder I made on the desktop. Can I just delete those?

Yes, you can delete those if it has already installed. It just uses those during installation and places the temporary files where you downloaded it.

Before using Driver Sweeper, make sure to create a system restore point first. I have seen that software cause systems to become unbootable because it cleaned too much. Usually it is fine, but I like to exercise caution when I see someone say they are going to use it. Also, always use it in Safe Mode after uninstalling the driver in normal mode.

Well bad news came in.

I was browsing the web and suddenly what happened was my sound completely distorted and the computer just crashed. No screen distortion or blue screen. Just sound and a crash.
I do believe it counts as a blue screen since it popped up in blue screen view and made a minidump.

Sigh we have still have work to do.

You have a 0x124 hardware bugcheck. If the system is still under warranty, I would recommend sending it in to have diagnostic tests done and any bad hardware replaced.


For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.

• If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.
  
  
• Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
  
  Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.​
  • Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
  • Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
  • HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
  • Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.
    
    
  • Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.
    
    
  • Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest
  
  
• Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).
  
  For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)

Wow this is scary...

While I am running a furmark test, the cpu test, MG test, and prime95, do I have to actually be there to monitor the temperatures and make sure they are not to high?

Also, while one of these stress tests are running for the cpu and gpu, what temp should I turn it off at? My cpu has a pretty meh fan (a bit better then stock) so I dont know if stressing it that much would be good.

Yes, you have to be there to monitor temps. After 20 minutes or so, the CPU temps in Prime95 should be at their max, so at that point, it should be safe to leave the computer running on its own. Check back every now and then, though. FurMark usually does not take too long to level off, so probably 5-15 minutes is all that should be required. No need to monitor temps during the graphics memory test passes.

Anything over 60 C on the processor would be too high. GPU can get up to 100 C, so if you are getting above 95 C, turn it (the test) off.

Alright, also while these tests are running (furmark, prime95, intelstress, vmt etc) when temps even out, how long would I leave the test running? Until errors? I understand you turn them off if temps get too high but its just that I am confused how long it would be while evened out.

Alright, so far I have only done the furtest and it went on for about 3 minutes before my temps went to around 85-90C. Of course after they hit 88, I just stopped it (already having problems, would rather not have a fried GPU). I didn't notice any artifacts, but I might try this test again to be sure.

Right now I am doing the MG test for my GPU, which will probably take the whole day and night to finish.

Tomorrow, I will try the IntelCPU test thing, and since I already performed a memtest a few weeks back (10 passes, no errors), I will try the windows memory tool as well.

Then maybe on a friday/saturday, I will perform the Prime95 tests.

What does your GPU temperature reach when the system is idle? Let it sit for 10-15 minutes without doing anything (you may have to change power management settings to keep the system from going to sleep or putting the monitor to sleep)?
