Solved BSOD Windows 7 - ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40

There are a lot of people with updates near 100 after SP1 right now. I have seen this in a number of reports the past few days. I am anticipating SP2 being released soon, but that is just speculation on my part. I have not heard anything yet regarding an SP2 for Windows 7.

When I am done getting all updates installed on my new system, I'll let you know how many I have.

Thanks. I'm gonna roll with this install for a few days and accumulate some dump files... IF it runs stable for that time, I'll let you know. Here is to hoping!

Sounds good. Best of luck!

In regards to SP2, there are unsubstantiated rumors that it will occur in May. Guess we'll all wait and see what Microsoft does.

Update (SP1) Refused to auto-install so I had to manually install it after the hotfix...

But windows is up to date as of 8PM EST last night.

Thought you might like a peak at the dump files (all 12) I've acquired since the repair install.

I used your batch file to get the details incase anything had changed.

Thanks for the help. Hey, wanna buy a slightly used PC? It's gonna have a few dents in it....

Can you test your computer with a different PSU? Borrow one from a friend if you can.

I went into the Catalyst program and disabled Overdrive (AODDriver2). I can not uninstall the program as it is part of the catalyst program.

Does the OCCT only point to PSU? The reason I ask is because almost everytime I try to run it, the program stops responding. BTW, I looked around and none of my friends have a spare PSU with the required wattage. I may have to go buy one... They are not too cheap.
Fraps has been re-installed just in case.

Temps are all fine, nothing above 71.

It freezes in all tests. Just runs fine, then stops responding.

If you get 7-zip, you may be able to extract just the driver, or if you start the installation and do not finish it, you can probably get the driver files to extract into the AMD folder. Actually, if you uninstall all AMD software and drivers via AMD installation manager, the AMD folder should still exist within the C: drive. You should be able to install the driver from there using the steps in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/97061-driver-install-device-manager.html (disregard all the steps about XP and using device manager to update, the steps are basically still the same except you won't have a .zip file but the AMD folder to peruse through). Also, ignore PART TWO of that tutorial.

Try running Windows with one RAM module at a time in one slot at a time. Try to find a good module and a good slot, then test the other slots with the good module and each module with the good slot. Avoid Static Damage to Your PC | PCWorld when moving modules around.

Hmmm, I lost a post.

First Stick has been checked in the first slot. 8 passes.

I wiped my second drive and installed Windows 7 on it. I'll give that a run tonight, but while I'm at work, Stick #1 in slot #2.

Attached are some more dump files...

A USB/HID related crash...

The rest of the .dmp files were similar to your previous ones.

Start with http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165554-usb-driver-general-fix-problems.html and then use a hard reset to resolve hardware and software issues (which works for all computers, not just HP Pavilions) in case your USB hubs entered a different power state to protect your computer from a surge.

The dump that was in might be before I ran through your steps. I forgot to add that I did that.

Stick #1 passed 8 times in Slot #2.

Did some troubleshooting with the new install. I loaded Win7, updated all the way, and loaded JAVA and minecraft. Played for about a half an hour. No crashes.

Installed Fraps and set it to record to the OLD win 7 drive. 5 minutes in... crash. (Dump attached, not DV enabled)

Set fraps to record to NEW win 7 drive... Played fine (so far).

I'll enable DV and try to get it to crash again. But right now, I'm thinking the drive might be bad... It did pass the WD diagnosis, but i had bad ram pass the MEMtest86+ so I'm taking no chances.

I am currently formatting the old win 7 drive and will test it again once it's done.

Thanks a million for your patience so far. We might have an end in sight.

Possible causes are Memory problems... Corrupted hard disk file system... Corrupted System Files... Graphics Driver... Drivers...

I notice you do not yet have Service Pack 1 installed as of this crash; please install it if you have not yet done so and report back how the system runs.

Also, glad to see you tracked it down to a possible hard disk problem. See how things go after the format.

On a hunch, I also checked your drivers...
Code:
ASACPI	fffff880`03e1d000	fffff880`03e25000	[COLOR="Red"]Sun Mar 27 20:30:36 2005[/COLOR] (42476c4c)	00003c77 ASACPI.sys

Older versions of ASACPI.SYS are a known BSOD problem on Windows 7. Update the driver by:
  1. Going to the Asus motherboard support site
    When you reach the website:
  2. Scroll down the page and click Utilities
  3. Hold Ctrl and press f (ctrl+f) to enter the browser's find feature
  4. Search for "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit" (without quotes)
  5. Download and install the driver.
  6. After installation is complete, verify that it installed correctly.
    • Click Start Menu
    • Click My Computer
    • Go to C:\WIndows\System32\drivers\
    • Verify that the ASACPI.SYS file is dated 2009 or newer (2010,etc.)

Thanks to JMH and zigzag3143 for the above information.

ATK0110 Has been updated. I forgot to do that when I reinstalled win7.

Speaking of which, new installed BS'ed on me, but identified the video card.

Dump file attached.

Not sure why SP1 isn't installed... It says i have zero updates. I'll download it.

When I formatted the suspected bad drive, I did a zero write first. so the drive is now 100% empty.

Most recent crash was while recording to new win 7 drive with fraps while playing minecraft.

mdag is a kernel management file and mpag is a multivendor miniport driver

I updated my ASACPI to 5/14/2009 ver 1043.5

I noted my temps are up during a crash... They were rock solid early last month when I checked them, but now the are hitting 83+ right before the crashes. I replaced the TIM, just incase... My liquid cooler is working... As far as I can tell. But the temps are 65+ during normal operations and 71+ under a load.

There were a couple of crashes that didn't generate a dump for some reason.
