BSODs from hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe shows up during gameplay

I recently built a new computer, about 4 days ago. Since then, while i was playing games (minecraft/DayZ) the computer crashed (once for each game). I used bluescreen view to see what was causing the problem and it was the same both times, hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. I looked around on the internet to find a solution and used memtest to test the memory and software from my hard drive manufacturer's site to test the hard drive, both came back with no issues. Afterward I intended on using the system repair tool from my windows 7 disc, but it says "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair". I then made a recovery disc and tried using it to no avail. What can I do now other than simply re-install Windows and hope that it doesn't happen again?

Well there haven't been any responses yet, but i ran a disk check and an sfc /scannow with no bad files found on either of them. I really have no idea what to do next to fix hal.dll or ntoskrnl.exe without using the repair tools which i can't use. Anything would be helpful, Thank you

While gaming my cpu temps went up to about 45 C but mainly hovered around 40 C. My idle temps were about 33 C. I don't have any overclocking on the CPU, but are these temperatures alright? Anyways, after I did all of those tests, the bsods stopped, but i continue to test and I will update my intel drivers, Thanks!

I did that but under Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility where my i5-4570k should be detected there is nothing, yet it still says this version is valid? Everything else is unknown to intel because i'm using nvidia stuff for the most part.

Is there really no one that has any idea how to fix this issue? i've tried a lot but can't seem to fix it. When evga precision x is on to control my fan, it seems not to happen, but i don't like having an unstable computer and i feel like this is only a temporary fix. Is the only option at this point to reinstall windows 7?

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

BSOD's persisted, but I attempted to update a driver for amda00 which was missing for some reason, additionally i bumped up the minimum power wattage for the processor (i5-4570k). It might have something to do with these new haswell processors, i'm not sure.

After running memtest for all 8 gigs of my RAM overnight, the computer bluescreened with a different cause, still ntoskrnl.exe, but in a different locale or something. It wasn't x124 this time so I was hoping if you could scan it koolkat and see what comes back. Hopefully we've fixed something because hal.dll is no longer in bluescreenview as the cause, but if we could pinpoint what caused it this time, maybe it will be completely fixed. By the way, bluescreenview shows the bug check string as DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE if that helps. Thanks again for your amazing support koolkat!

Well, same problems, for some reason the actual memtest from a usb won't work when i use the tool on the memtest86+ site. I put it in the first slot in the boot menu of the bios, and it goes straight to the windows screen. I believe the problem is with the actual model of the RAM, it isn't listed in the compatible RAM section of my motherboard (Asus Z87-C), even though extremely similar sticks are listed. Does this sound like something that would cause these problems? If so i plan to send them back and get these sticks G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL - Newegg.com that are compatible.

Do you have the RAM set per the specs listed on the label? Frequency, timing, and voltage.

Most all RAM will work fine with most all boards. The board makers don't really test RAM, they slap in a stick of whatever is on the shelf, if it POSTs, it's qualified. I know a tech who works with board makers and has confirmed this. In the end if a RAM isn't on the QVL it just means it wasn't tested.

To make memtest boot from the USB flash drive, try YUMI and add the memtest iso to it.

Ok, I will try YUMI and I suppose the problem isn't the RAM being incompatible with the board. Yet, the problem that windows repair cannot be started with the windows disc or with a burnt windows repair disc is still bugging me, but a x124 error is a problem with hardware so I don't think that we have a faulty win7 disc. I suppose it is still a possibility, the first time I inserted the windows disc it gave a warning that some files were missing. If memtest runs with no errors, I will consider getting Microsoft to switch out my disc for a new one.

This may work, press F5 during POST, see if that will open Advanced Startup Options. Sometimes, with ASUS boards, tapping F8 the instant the screen goes blank after POST will do it too, or bring up the Boot Menu.
You are correct, it is some hardware issue, hal.dll is Hardware Abstraction Layer.

I attempted tapping f5 during post and f8 immediately after, but still no luck. I moved the sandisk to first place and restarted the computer but it boots from windows normally and when i check the bios afterward, the main hdd is moved back into first place. Running this Download IntelBurnTest - MajorGeeks tonight on high to see what the results are. Since I never posted the specs (idk why): intel i5 4570k, g.skill ripjaws 8gb F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH, Asus Z87-C motherboard, evga gtx 770, western digital blue 1 tb HDD
