About a week ago my wife’s laptop stopped connecting to the internet. Her laptop still connects to the home intranet (can access file on my PC, print, etc). I have tried everything I know how to do to get her machine back on the internet. I even bout a new router. One other thing, the laptop does connect to the internet briefly after it’s restarted.

try a system restore before that date if you have one. You may have to update drivers. Go to your wireless card's manufacturer's website and specify which card you have, and then download its drivers. Make sure you have all of windows important and critical updates. make sure you don't have a virus by running an antivirus (Only 1 antivirus, I recommend MSE). Failing that, we can start looking at settings within the computer. Did you or the missus change anything that might have led up to the failing connection?
