Cannot boot from Sata 6g, okay from 3g? System files issue?

Hello everyone,
I think I created a bit of a mess with my boot sequences, and don't quite know how to fix it without messing it up further.

I had Windows 7 installed on a IDE drive. Bought a SSD drive and did a new install, but kept the old disc (still with Windows files on it) plugged in.

Now, anytime I plug the SSD (new C:drive) into one of the Sata 6g ports it brings up a BOOTMGR MISSING message. I cannot even make this SSD bootable in Bios.

However, if I plug it into the SATA 3g port, it boots just fine.

I think the problem is with where my system files are, but don't know for sure and don't know how to fix this. Can you help? Anyone? Thanks a lot.

Can the bios recognize the SSD in the sata 6 slot without the IDE windows 7 drive?
Have you checked the boot order?
are you dual booting or planning to only use the SSD as an OS ?

It Sounds like you left the IDE drive plugged in while installing windows and the MBR split between the drives
so the change is making windows spit the dummy.

Yes, actually I can see all the drives in BIOS. If I try to assign the SSD as a boot drive in BIOS it gives the Bootmgr missing message. I would only want to boot 1 system and from the SSD, ideally removing the system from the IDE drive and use it for files only, but Windows computer management will not let me delete those partitions.
So, I think the issue is indeed where different boot-files are located, probably split over both drives.

I think a clean re-install will be the proper thing...unplug all other drives and reinstall Windows on SSD.

What I don't understand is that the system boots-up fine with all drives connected to Sata 3g, but when I plug the SSD into a Sata 6g port, the booting is not possible.

Hey. I am not 100% sure in saying this but i think that the boot sector / mbr split between the IDE drive and the SSD.
and for some reason it can still join/work together between IDE and Sata 3 but not between IDE and Sata 6.
Probably because sata 6 is a newer technology and is incompatible in this sense?

So yeah i would agree. get the data off the IDE drive. format it completely
Get your data off your ssd backed up somewhere.

Reinstall windows with ONLY the SSD plugged in into the sata 6 port and see how you go; you should be able to reconnect the ide drive once its completely cleaned or as an external.

The other option is unplug the other drives. get a windows repair disc. get into the command prompt in the repair dialogue and type /fixmbr

^ that might fix the issue but at the risk of data loss if you dont back up your files first

Small question, is that IDE a 1tb or a raid of smaller IDE drives?

IDE is a 1tb (one physical disk) partitioned into smaller drives.
Will give it a shot with the repair disk, not much to lose as I still plan a clean install anyway.
