I didn't really do anything that would cause something like this, my laptop just randomly refused to boot into windows last night. I've been working to fix this all night but to no avail. I ran Startup Repair and it told me that ntoskrnl.exe was corrupted, so I replaced it with one from an installation disk, along with some other files (detailed here).

Now my computer doesn't even know what the problem is, it just gives me this:
Code:

I can't boot into Safe Mode, and don't have a System Restore so I can't do that...

I'm completely stumped here, so any help is appreciated!

Oh, and I wanted to know if it's possible to do a repair install without having to log onto windows... It doesn't let me, saying that I booted from the disk.

From the startup repair options choose "Command Prompt" and type sfc /scannow. Have your 7 DVD in the drive. Enable the hidden admin account if yours is corrupted, cmd -> net user administrator /active:yes

I hope there is hope for you since I am experiencing the same problem. I do not have a disk to install windows 7 though, since it came pre-installed on our desktop. Fortunately I have a laptop for my school work....

Um, this thread is like eight months old.

Anyway, thanks for the concern, but I have long since resolved the problem. It was three bad sectors. I backed up the data, wrote zeros to the drive, and installed Windows XP. It's working flawlessly now. I am now using a new drive (with XP; I am never going back to 7 ever again, it was horrible), and gave the fixed drive to my sister.

Thanks for the reply... no need to roll your eyes at me though. I was hoping that I could fix the problem myself, but I am definitely no technological wizard. I have never seen this happen before. I am glad you were able to resolve your issue and that everything's okay for you. I am going to try updating my BIOS first and then go from there. Definitely I will consider changing my running system though, since it appears to be something that is fairly common with Windows 7. Thanks again!:dinesh:
