I have been trying to install MSE for ages and have tried loads of fixes for this error. I have turned Windows Defender off and Windows firewall on.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I have .NET framework 4.5.2 installed and I have never had an antivirus installed on this machine.

On a maybe related matter, I am also having trouble installing two Windows Updates, KB2592687 and KB830477; I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

All my CBSPersist files are way too large except for a 4mB one (I have attached it) and a text file, as shown here:

Here are the results of sfc /scannow:

Also, I am in the process of running the MBAM scan, I will post the results when it's finished.

Ye gods - a 25MB CBSPersist file translates to about 700MB as a CBS log file - no wonder the system was slow !
I did actually say to do a FULL scan with Malwarebytes.

This appears to be the critical error from the WindowsUpdate.log...
Code:
 Line 3509: 2015-05-03 14:25:47:050 388 d1c Report REPORT EVENT: {72DC74FE-9BBF-48BA-93D3-6D5BBA14CEFF} 2015-05-03 14:25:46:785+0100 1 182 101 {7E3D95D0-AF45-48FA-917D-8DD9CF4DFF43} 200 80070005 AutomaticUpdates Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070005: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2830477).
The SFC scan appears to be clear of errors, and the CBS.log has no errors in the background.

You haven't posted the CheckSUR.log file - since it doesn't show in the CBS folder, I assume that you haven't yet run SURT/CheckSUR. Please do so, and post the resulting log.

I will post the SURT results tomorrow when I can get round to it. I will leave a full system scan running too and see if it finds anything.

After looking at the error message you posted, I found this guide: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003

However, it didn't help anything as it just said it failed a lot instead of fixing any permissions:

It managed to modify 9800+ permissions, and you say it didn't do anything?
..and the error code that is intended for is a completely different one to the one you are getting!

We are now going to have to start the whole process afresh, since there's no way to tell what's been done (or not done).
PLEASE do NOT go off trying things yourself. Many can do more ham than good - and unless I know what's going on I have no way to know where in the process errors are creeping in.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the ALL requested data

Sorry about trying something on my own, I'm just getting a bit frustrated. I assumed that the 0x80070005 error that you found in the windowsupdate.log was to do with my other problem, the failing windows updates:

On a maybe related matter, I am also having trouble installing two Windows Updates, KB2592687 and KB830477; I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

I will post all the required stuff ASAP, sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm trying to work on both problems at the same time, as they are probably related - however, the 80070005 error is a lot more generic than that article likes to make out, and can result from file permissions as well as registry permissions, and subinacl isn't really very good with x64 registries anyhow (unless they've updated it lately).

Okay so I have run SURT and it installed successfully, the sfc scan said the same as before and I have attached the CBS + CheckSUR files; here is also a screenshot of the CBS folder now:

It looks as if the permissions on the System32 folder may be screwed.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...

ICACLS C:\Windows
ICACLS C:\Windows\System32
ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs

Post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

If anyone is interested I finally fixed this. It was a problem with my permissions with my ProgramData folder; I couldn't install MSE, Skype, Microsoft office and other Microsoft software. I ran this command:
Code:
 icacls "c:\ProgramData" /T /C /grant administrators:F
and all the programs can now install fine.

By chance have you installed a anti virus program yet? The reason I ask is many infection can and will change permissions settings.

Well Malwarebytes does a fine job except it's not a anti virus program it's a anti malware program.
Virus and malware are two different things.

I use MSE along with Malwarebytes Premium.
Only the Premium will monitor your system active.

Can you after the repair install MSE?

After all you started out with this thread title.

Cannot install MSE - error 0x80070643

I have successfully installed MSE and I am running a full scan now to check for any viruses.
