Cannot join homegroup wired vs wireless

My environment consists of:
Desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64
- Wired connection to Verizon FIOS Actiontec MI424WR
Laptop running Windows Home Premium x64
- Wireless connection to same router
Laptop running Windows Pro x64
- Wireless connection to same router

The two wireless devices can connect to homegroup created on either wireless device.
Neither wireless can connect to homegroup created on wired device.
The wired device cannot connect to a homegroup created on either wired device.
I've moved one wireless device to wired and then I can connect the desktop and the wired laptop via homegroup.

The problem is clearly the Verizon Actiontec router/modem.

Ideas for getting this to work?

I suspect Verizon ( yeah I would hate calling them too) might be the best bet

It sounds like your router is blocking the IPv6 protocol from travelling across wired/wireless. My best suggestion would be to create a Workgroup instead, as I believe that can run on IPv4 and should work ok.

I'm an a**. Sorry Verizon - it isn't your fault. I missed a step in my testing and I feel pretty stupid. Sorry Derek.

When I tested the laptop on the wired side (wired / wired) I screwed up and still connected to the wrong machine. In the process, confirming (and reconfirming in a second test) that I can connect to a homegroup from wired to wireless. And the two devices on the wired side cannot connect to each other. So, I've isolated this to the desktop (win 7 pro). I've eliminated the wireless/wired issue.

I've updated the driver on the nic card.

Problem fixed. Problem was NOT Verizon. Gosh I feel dumb.

I have Vonage and for lack of a second port, I plugged my desktop inline into the Vonage device. The PC was getting DHCP from the Vonage and was on a different network (vlan) than the home network.

Homegroup works.
iTunes and AppleTV connect perfectly.
All my worries are my own.

Homegroups works perfectly, imagine that. Despite all the rumors to the contrary Homegroups does in fact work perfectly. The problems others are having with Homegroups are similar to your own, in most every case user error or a third party A/V or firewall is to blame.

If you have any other types of connection problems I would take a look at the bonjour service which installed with itunes. It's famous for causing network connection problems with Windows 7.
