Cannot locate USB 3.0 drivers for W7

I'm using Acronis Backup & Restore with Universal Restore (UR) to new hardware. UR is asking for driver pci\ven_1022&dev_7812&subsys_76951462&rev_03. I cannot locate this anywhere, although Driver Identifier shows it is installed in another OS instance (new install). Anyone know exactly where I can download this driver?

Is there a way to extract a driver from within an existing Windows installation?

I haven't been able to find a driver for this to download, but I can tell you that the PCI vendor string identifies this device as an AMD Hudson USB XHCI Controller. Your idea to extract the existing driver should work; hopefully with the device name you're able to find it in the new install.

I would assume that the name, or a part of it, is inside the folder name for the driver, either in C:\Windows\winsxs or in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository.

Just guessing. Does the device show up in the Device Manager with a ? mark?

Your MSI motherboard should have come with a Drivers CD. Load the CD in the optical drive and let Windows search for it in that specific location.

Thanks.
1. Cannot check Device Manager as system will not boot. I'm using Acronis Backup & Restore with Universal Restore (UR) to move to new hardware.
2. In another forum someone pointed me to www.driveridentifier.com and DoubleDriver (http://www.boozet.org/dd.htm) which allows me to extract and save drivers from an existing OS instance. I did this for x64 and x86 OS W7 instances and neither driver works in with UR. ven_1022&dev_7812&subsys_76951462&rev_03 appears to be x64 USB 3.0 Host Controller.

I can boot new system with USB disabled in BIOS, so the problem is clearly USB driver related. The x64 instance of W7U shows this as the driver in use, however, I'm installing x86 W7U and a clean x86 W7U instance shows a different driver. I need a x86 driver set with (real/fake) name as above. Any ideas will be appreciated.

OK, thanks ValtinX for the clarification. Now I understand your problem. But since I had never attempted such a UR or hardware independent restore, I can be of no help here. I have to wait and watch this thread and learn. :)

Update: I've spent over an hour with Acronis technical support. No solutions. They are looking into why system won't boot w/o the usb drivers (BSOD -- attempt to execute in/from impermitted memory area). They think it should boot and ask for drivers. I am awaiting their response.

Have you tried re-installing your mobo chipset drivers? If the USB drivers didn't take, perhaps the chipset drivers didn't either.

Worth a look at any rate.

This was exactly my thought. The OP says he is trying the Universal Restore, there is no way to do it.

He also says that he can boot with USB disabled in the bios. Should it be possible for him to install the chipset drivers under this condition? Is it going to help in anyway?

If he can boot with USB disabled, chipset installation 'should' be fine. Depending on board/BIOS etc - some devices aren't even seen, let alone allow drivers to be installed until the chipset drivers are installed first.

If chipset drivers are installed and it still won't boot with USB enabled, then there is a conflict elsewhere.

From what I can find the MB chipset (A75-Hudson) has native USB 3.0 support so the MSI chipset driver should be what you need.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've installed from scratch W7U x64 and x86 on this system in different partitions--they are fine. The USB problems are related to UR.

MB comes with 2 'internal' USB 3.0 ports (in faceplate) and 2 'external' USB 3.0 ports (uses an adapter slot-location but not an adapter slot). I unplugged the 'external' ports, still no boot.

As it happens I also have TIH 11 with UR. I'm going to try that assuming it can deal with a backup created by B&R and/or the B&R OS image as restored by B&R. Does anybody know? But I guess I'll find out in any case.

Windows 7 does not have any USB 3 drivers. After installing Windows you need to install your chipset drivers for your MB. Should have come on a CD with the MB or can be downloaded from MSI site.

When Windows 7 came out USB 3 was still new and no chipsets at the time had USB 3 so no drivers were included in Windows 7. The first USB 3 on MB's was an add-on chip and the MB companies included the drivers. There was also add-on PCIe cards for USB 3 and they came with drivers. In this OP's case his MB chipset (A75-Hudson) has native USB 3 and the USB 3 driver is included in the chipset driver. I think due to different implementation of USB 3, Microsoft has not added USB 3 drivers to Windows 7. It is rumored that Windows 8 will include USB 3 drivers.

I think W7 has 3.0 drivers based on my clean installs. x64 clearly states USB 3.0 controller. In any case, since I cannot boot w USB enabled and the drivers have no effect when I boot w USB disabled, that is a moot point.

I have another system that is TIH w UR only (no mixing of solutions) and will see how I fair with that migration. This system cannot live w/o access to old OS and applications w/o disabling USB between using x86 and x64--fortunately, I do not have to pull apart that system to build the new system and can just continue its use in case of failure.

PhoneMan seems to ge correct as the 3.0 drivers had to be added separately for my W7 most recent install (I was going from memory before and remembered incorrectly).

Anyway, my TIH backup could not be restored using TIH because the backup included multiple drives! Being curious, I tried to restore using the TIH backup file with B&R. Lo! and Behold! I was able to restore the OS drive (only) and it was bootable. Of course, drivers had to be installed/replaced. System is ready for use!!!

Sad to say I cannot do the same for my other system as I cannot do a new backup (drive re-used and has now failed). I will persue with Acronis based on their latest suggestions, however, I thinking my migration to x64 will be on a faster schedule than I had planned--I wonder what
