Solved Cannot reduce CPU load

Greetings Experts,

I have read through a number of threads on this forum and enacted the various recommendations to reduce or eliminate processes, services in Task Manager and startup/services in System Configuration...to no lasting avail.

Sitting idyl with no programs running, and doing absolutely nothing, my i5 machine is chewing up 46-54% of the available CPU resource.

First it got a lot better, but now it is actually a lot worse since I started trying to tweek it.

I am totally out of ideas. If anyone can help me with some suggestions I sincerely appreciate it, thank you.

If you check in Task Manager and click the button "Show processes from all users", then sort on the CPU column, what service(s) are using the most CPU? And how much?

System idle...75
PresentationF...25
System...01

The rest are 00

Expand the column so you can see the full name. If the PresentationF... is presentationfontcache.exe then have a look here:

Thank you Tookeri that made all the difference!

For ppl following this, the first directive on the linked thread above indicates to open services.msn, and then stop the PrsentationFontCache service. When I go to services.msn, I do not see the PresentationFont service in either list, standard or extended, so I used the second solution:

Go to C>Windows>Service profiles>local service>appdata>local and delete all the font.dat files

Was able to delete most of them (gadgets using the rest) and now CPU is done to average 5%.

Just a note, the System idle...75 item [System Idle Process] should be higher or the highest of the numbers on that list, means the CPU is not working hard. Also, to see the full name you can expand the columns by dragging the right edge of the column name to the right, works just the same as in Excel many other programs that use columns.
