Canon Color ImageClass MF8050Cn

I am new here and this is my first post!

I am a Civil Designer by trade, but with the current economic state, I have been trying to help with some of the IT responsibilities in my office.

Here is my current dilemma:
I am trying to connect a desktop computer with a Windows 7 OS to a networked Canon Color ImageClass MF8050Cn. After I run the install disc to load the drivers, the device cannot be found. When I try to enter the i.p. address manually, it still cannot be found.

I am trying to do this on an ACER Aspire x1301 if that helps.

Any ideas on how I can get this printer loaded to this machine?

If the Canon is on the network then you don't need to run the install disk. That disc is normally for when the Canon is directly connected to the computer.

If the Canon is on the network you would be able to do a "add printer" and do a network discovery. Once the Canon is found then you can add it. Since you ran the disc the drivers should already be on your machine.

If the network discovery does not find the printer, then you will need to manually add the printer. You will need the IP address of the Canon to manually add the printer. If you don't know the address, you will need to run through the settings on the Canon Display to get it. I hope that helps. -WS

I tried "add a printer" and it found the Canon. But when it was trying to load it, an error appeared saying "Windows cannot locate suitable printer driver." Is there a driver I can download from the internet to get this to work?

As for the disc, the drivers won't even load from the disc because it cannot find the printer, both automatically and from the i.p.

Any thoughts?

Yep there are drivers:

Goto: Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : Color imageCLASS MF8050Cn

In the middle of the screen is a "Select OS" Pull it down and pick Windows 7 (x64).

The first option is Drivers: Download the drivers.

That should do it.

Downloaded all the drivers and still won't load. When I did a ‘troubleshoot’ the pop up said the WSD Printer Device Driver not installed. I tried to a search for this driver and can't find anything for Windows 7 (64).

Getting a little frustrating!

Ok to make sure I have this right:

1) You downloaded the driver from Canon.
2) You unpacked the driver and put them in a place where you know they are, (i.e. Desktop, USB Flash drive etc.)
3) You have the IP address of the printer, from the printer print out or off the LCD screen.
4) You installed the printer on Windows 7 with the IP from the printer and then pointed to the (desktop or USB flash drive) for the drivers.

This did not work, what error message did you get besides the driver not found?? Did the printer install give you that message when you pointed the install to your (desktop, USB Flash drive) for the drivers???

I got it!

Again, I am new to some of this stuff, so small victories get me excited. Thanks for your help WS. Your last post was what made me figure it out.

I ended up loading the printer from the IP and pathing to the downloaded drivers on the desktop (just like you recommended).
