Can't access any programs in safe mode

I am having problems with some of my Antivirus/Antimalware software. I was told by my IT guy to run it in safe mode. When I boot in safe mode there is no start menu and no way to access any programs. How can I get to my programs. I tried a command prompt to open task manager. There is no explorer.exe listed. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Maestro,

If you are thinking on uninstalling your antivirus program,
you can create a shortcut from your desktop directly to the programs and features.

right click on desktop > select "NEW" > then select "Shortcut".
on the window, type "appwiz.cpl" without quote. then Enter.

What kind of problems are you having? What is your AV software?
Can you boot normally or not, you don't actually say?

I guess you are getting the Black Screen of Death in Safe Mode, sometimes "logging off" in Safe Mode and relogging helps.

Also try Safe Mode with Networking.

If you still can't get a desktop, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and if you can get Task Manager to run, click new task and enter "explorer.exe"

A little more info...

I have been trying to run SpyBot Search and Destroy and it won't run. I was told to try it in Safe Mode. Booting normally works just fine and I can access everything normally. But safe mode will not give me access to any applications. I have tried all safe mode options (with networking, without, with command prompt) and it is the same thing every time. I tried opening task manager through the command prompt there is no explorer.exe listed. I tried to start a new task and type in explorer.exe but that doesn't work either. It does nothing. I was able to get an older version of SpyBot to work normally which is good. But I am still interested in why I can't get safe mode to work properly. I've run AVG antivirus scans, Malware Bytes scans, and Spybot scans and have cleaned/fixed anything that they have found. Safe mode still does not work properly. Ideas?

Do you have a 2nd monitor attached or a TV perhaps?

Does explorer.exe appear in Task manager after you try to start it?
