OK So to begin Im upgrading from windows XP Professional.. Before I decided to up grade I ran into this error on my PC:
C:\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt

I tried the recovery disk and pressing r and typing in the commands in microsofts website and it said: access denied (or something along those lines) Ok so I gave up on that and when I start the computer I can go into BIOS and everything but as soon as it hits the screen where "windows didnt start last time, safe mode, blah, last known good configuration. If select any of them it freezes and if I allow the countdown it usually goes to a white / black screen and says that error up there ^^.

We couldnt get it fixed so I decided that I would upgrade to windows 7 and I purchased it online and downloaded it and it WILL not work with the computer. I go into BIOS and set CD/DVD first and press a key to boot from disk and it just restarts as soon as it loads and keeps redoing it. Occasionally Ill get a " the file is possibly corrupt, the file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

Any ideas?? :confused::(

Confirm the ISO or download another file and burn it to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, enter BIOS setup to reset to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI.

Boot the DVD by setting DVD drive to boot first in BIOS setup, or using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen. You should receive a prompt to "Press any key to boot disk." What happens then?

If this fails you can eliminate the installer as cause by writing the ISO to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu. Boot using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key under USB, Removable or HD's.

If these fail next try wiping the HD using Diskpart Clean Command accessing DISKPART At PC Startup.

Thanks for quick reply!! Will try first thing in the AM!

I gave you a step to wipe the HD which will delete the Recovery partition. If one of the earlier steps works without having to wipe the HD, then during Custom install, choose the Drive options to Delete all partitions, Create new ones as you wish, or just click Next to begin install and the installer will Create and Format one large install partition for you. Illustrated steps here: Clean Install Windows 7

ok i wiped the HDD like you said and still when I boot from disk the windows loading bar comes up and then it goes to "starting windows" and freezes.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so confirm the ISO or burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

To eliminate the installer as suspect, next write the ISO to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with WIn7 in dropdown menu. Boot stick using HP's ESC or F9 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key under USB, Removable, or HD's.

You can find the latest official ISO download and the full steps to get a perfect reinstall here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

Try writing the ISO to stick as given then reboot, tap ESC or F9 key to see if you can find stick to boot under USB, Removable or HD's - you may need to expand them.

Did you burn the DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed?

If it fails to boot from flash unplug the DVD drive data or power cable to make sure it's not interfering. All other HD's and peripherals but the target HD should also be unplugged.

iS the microsoft office store download tool OK to use to copy the files to the USB

I'm sorry but this is still indicative of bad install media. Please download a fresh copy of the latest official installer w/SP1, burn to DVD or write to stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.

Try setting HD first to boot in BIOS setup, then trigger DVD or flash stick to boot using HP ESC or F9 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first screen.

If this fails again, move on to reset BIOS to defaults. While in BIOS set SATA controller to AHCI. Save and exit.

Next wipe the HD by slaving it in another computer to run Diskpart Clean Command or boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD which will autostart to Wipe from Disk tab.

If this fails test the HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

If install still fails test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+.
Remove all but 2gb RAM to try install. Next swap RAM sticks.

As a last resort move HD to another machine to install, before moving back SysPrep to move HD to another computer.

When installing Upgrade version to a wiped HD, leave Product Key blank during install then afterwards do the quick registry workaround here to activate: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

OK def got further this time.. middle of progress I get:
STOP: c000021a (fatal System error)
The initial session process of system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0x00000000000 (0xc0000221 0x001003a8).
