Can't connect xbox360 to pc: unidentified network

First of all, I'm new to this form, so HELLOOOO
Simply discribed: Can't establish a connection from my xbox360 to my PC. I'ts a direct connection and it should work like: xbox->PC->Gateway->Internet

I got it connected directly to the pc on Connection 1. On connection 2 is the gateway.

In the network sharing center the xbox on connection 1 is marked as "unidentified network". When I go to advanced sharing center, and check the full map of my connection 1 it shows me 1 hub, my PC and the XBOX!!
But, when I move over the XBOX with the pointer it says : IPv4 address: 0.0.0.0 and a MAC address which seems to be configured.
Well....I'm not even able to establish any connection from my XBOX to the PC. It simply says that its not connected to a PC or hasn't got a IP address from the PC.

I hope that some of you guys can help me out with this mess, I googled around the web and found no concrete solution to this problem.

btw, I'm using up to date nforce controllers, and Windows 7 64bit.

Type that into start menu search box then hit enter. Look for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and set it to automatic and start it too. Reboot if necessary.

Thx for your reply. I just checked your hint, but "Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" was already set to automatic and started aswel. Problem goes on.

I'm having a similar problem.

I can get windows media center connected and playing just fine. But I want to stream my music so I can play it while playing games / etc.

Stupid xbox won't find my pc for it though. bleh

windows 7 x64 media player 12

fire wall is off (in services as well, although media center was playing just fine w/ it on under services), ics is on, set to allowed streaming in wm12.

Working fine here on Win7x64, try going into MC setup on the xbox and uninstall it from there then go into the pc and network&sharing center\change advanced sharing settings and remove the xbox from the list. Turn the xbox back on and it should reappear in the list with default settings. Now go into media player and 'allow remote control' - back in the xbox ui setup mc extender and you should be good to go. I've had the problem you are faced with plenty of times due to reformatting etc and it is always remnant of previous setup that causes the issue. Hope this helps

Now working.

Removed media center from xbox
turned off xbox, removed cat5
rebooted comp,
removed xbox from list under network/sharing.
removed xbox extender from media center.
plugged in xbox's cat5 and turned on.
refreshed network/sharing on comp and xbox was back.
verified it was set w/ default view all permissions
verified MP12 was set to auto allow all devices for streaming.

Music streamin' good time had by all.

Step 1. using xbox360, make sure your connection is good when you go into system settings - network settings -test pc connection

Step 2. goto My xbox, select video Library -user name pc <--- this is the name of your computer. once you select this you might get a message that says you need to activate your console from your PC" do step 3

Step 3. using your PC windows 7, select start - control panel - network and Internet - under network and sharing center select, view network computers and devices. ( you may need to accept message about viewing network devices accept it)

Step 4. once inside network computer and devices, you should see 3 options 1.Computer 2.Media Devices 3.Network infrastructure. under media devices you should see an xbox 360 Icon.

Step 5. Right Click on the xbox360 Icon. Left click using the mouse on media streaming options. Over on the right you will boxes make sure they all say "Allowed" beside them and then click the ok

Step 6. open up the windows media player. Switch to Library view. on the top left hand side select Organize, then scroll to manage libraries select videos. Choose the folder that you have where your videos are stored in

step 7. using Xbox 360, go to "my xbox" select video Library -user name pc <--- this is the name of your computer. You should now be able to select the folder that you have your video stored in..

Step 8. Please make sure that you are signed into your Xbox360 live account, or sign using your xbox360 profile account. Otherwise you might get an error message when trying to watch your video. Please remember that you must be signed in first then view your videos.

Step 9. your done!! you should be able to view videos from your PC

This is short I know I tried to put it in short steps..you shouldn't have any problem if you follow steps correctly ...I do hope this helps you all, who use windows 7 that are trying to connect their xbox360 to their PCs ...

Hi, i have a similar issue but a little more complicated and i cannot make a new post i'm assuming because i'm a new user.

Issue: i cannot connect an xbox across the network unless i have ICS turned off. however i use ICS which is connected to another xbox to share the internet. i've tried opening all the ports requested and still nothing. i was wondering if anyone could specifically tell me how and where these ports should be opened to verify i'm doing it right or if anyone is aware of any solution.

I too have a similar problem, however mine is also slightly more complex.

I have the same setup, Router > PC(wirelessly) > Xbox(ethernet).

I can happily share internet to the Xbox, however, Windows 7 auto assigns it to be a public network which I cannot change, therefore cannot share media.

I have worked out if I reboot my PC with wireless disabled, then plug the Xbox in, Windows assigns it Work or Home, at random, then I can enable my wireless and all is good. However I have to do this every time I turn my Xbox on if I want to share media. Help?

Not close enough. All my gear is upstairs, I'm downstairs. So reaching a cable would be an expensive ordeal.

I'm having similar problems. But the real issue is yesterday, it was working perfectly. Today? not so much.

I spent three hours the other day trying to get this to work, i ended up having to restart my Homegroup. Well, that fixed it for a few days, but today i come home ready to stream some videos, and my pc is no where to be found by the xbox.


Any ideas? I've restarted the Internet Connection Sharing via. services.msc and still nothing. My wife's computer is working fine so the network is not the issue.

I'm sharing all folders and have wmp12 set to share as well. the Xbox360 is "allowed" as well and i can find no problems! HELP!!!
