Hi, I recently uninstalled Ubuntu from my laptop. It was dualbooted with Win7. I ran into some problems with getting rid of Grub, but I solved that problem. So what I did was inserted my 'System Disk', not OS disk, where I was able to restore my OS to factory settings with keeping all of data in 'C:\BACKUP'.

Now this is where the problem starts, when the PC restarts, there is an error that pops up after the screen says 'starting services'. The error is: Cannot complete windows installation. You must restart the computer to finish installation.

I am also not able to do a system restore because it is saying that I don't have system protection enabled. And I'm assuming I can't enable it in the recovery disk's command prompt because I don't have powershell.

Is there anything I can do without resorting to a full factory reset? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Acer Aspire 5742
Windows 7 HP 64 bit.

EDIT: Ok, I ended up figuring out how to finally do a system restore, but now, when upon completion, I get a 0x8000ffff error that pops up. Also, cannot perform sfc /scannow. Any Ideas?

EDIT: Figured it out without losing any data.

I am not able to rebuild the BCD. It says that there are no Windows installations found, but I know for a fact that it is installed.

The problem is, I think, that I restored the operating system to factory settings. My system disk gave me two options; I could restore the whole computer to factory settings, losing all of my data, or I could just restore the OS to factory settings, keeping my data. I chose the second option. But when I restarted the computer that's when I got the error. So I have no idea what else I can do without losing all of my data.

After all of this happened I put in the recovery disk and ran the command prompt and used bootrec /fixboot, /fixmbr and all of the other commands that was recommended in the link that you gave me.

I have no idea what too do :/

EDIT: I would prefer to do a system restore but it won't let me because it says I need to enable Sytem Protection.
