Can't get past welcome screen and other issues

Hi,

I turned on my computer today, it got past the 'starting windows screen' and then the screen was just blank

Anyway, I went into safe mode, un-installed the display adaptor and then re-installed it (the graphics card I have is a NIVIDIA GeForce GT240)

Afterwards, everything seemed fine, as normal, I got to the welcome screen, typed my password, and then it froze

I've tried creating another admin account and it didn't work

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64-bit on an Intel i7, 6gb Ram.

For some reason, safe mode works but I can't access my computer normally.

I feel like I have a myriad of problems, thus creating a new thread instead of searching for one which provides 100 different answers.

I think something is up with my graphics card to be honest, in any case, if any of you could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Do you have another video card you can try out? Do you have onboard graphics you can use instead?

Also, try selecting "Enable Low Resolution" instead of Safe Mode, see what happens.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you 'enable low resolution'?

It's okay, I fixed it haha !

You know those metal ports at the back of the computer that are used to cover the graphics card etc

Well one of them were loose and was touching the graphics card.

Anyway, iI thought I better take it out, I did and its working fine! haha

Thanks again for all your help everyone :)

I suggest that you replace your graphics card with a new one; perhaps the short in it caused some permanent damage. Could you borrow one from a friend to test out?

Check the return policies, see if you can find one that allows you to return it if need be.
