I have a new HP 4740s laptop [2 months old] running W7 professional.
Started fine yesterday morning but the next time I tried I got....
'User profile service service failed the log on. User profile can not be loaded'.
I rang HP and they tried various things including a system restore but it said there no restore points were set even tho' I know there should have been some and suggested I make a new user account. I can get in in safe mode but can't find a 'make new user account' link.
If I do manage to make a new user account would all my emails/photos be available to me?
Googling says this is not a uncommon problem and is caused by a duplicate reg entry and one of them needs to be deleted.
I am a little green around the gills thinking about it - I just don't feel I have enough info/experience to proceed. I have read how to do it - it sounds simple enough - basically delete the entry without the .bak ext and rename the the other folder by removing the .bak and make sure user values are set to zero.
I think my problem is I'm not sure if just right clicking and deleting the folder is the correct way to delete a reg folder of if it should be done another way and what happens if that doesn't work?
Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated.
