Hi there, firstly apologies for my lack of tech knowledge, I will try and give as much information as possible.
Issue is with a Samsung Notebook (from base of laptop, I think the model is: NP350V5C). Running on Windows 7 Home Premium OA. Intel core i5.
Laptop has always been set up to automatically log in, without having to type password. Now:
I have thought it might have a virus. It has the anti virus packages on it and when turned on I always run the checks. It is a old laptop (2008/9 I think). My partner owns a Mac and the laptop very rarely gets used.
Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated
even if its to throw it.

Laptop has always been set up to automatically log in, without having to type password. Now:
- Takes between 1-5mins loading up the loggin page saying 'logging in'.
- Says password is incorrect
- Cliches and fills the password bar with I assume characters, these are longer than the password and I haven't typed anything in.
- If I can manage to type in the password and click enter it says the error message: 'user profile failed to logon'.
- Restarted holding F8, page went a bit crazy and as if possessed scrolled through all options. Again I wasn't pressing anything. I eventually managed to select 'safe mode'.
- This didn't start in safe mode as tutorials suggest, but took me back to login steps (as above).
