Can't rename folder

I have three folders for backup on an external HDD: 'C Drive', 'D Drive' and 'E Drive'. Every time I go back to the HDD the folder 'E Drive' has been renamed 'My Documents' and the icon has changed from my choice to a Windows generic one. If I try to rename it 'E Drive' from within the Properties window, an error message comes up saying that a folder of that name already exists (there are only these three, hidden or not). If I try to rename it directly with F2, that is allowed and when I reset the icon, all seems OK. But next time I plug in the drive, that folder is back to being called 'My Documents'.

If I go into the 'My Documents' folder and select Properties for any of the subfolders, they show as being contained within a folder called 'E Drive'.

If I rename the folder, say, S Drive, that is OK, but when I try to change it back to E Drive again, from within folder properties, again the error message saying that E Drive already exists. I can, again, change it to 'E Drive' using F2 on the folder itself.

Windows does not see this folder as the 'My Documents' folder in the Start menu...

I have run checkdisk on the drive - no errors found. There aren't any reference to 'My Documents' for this HDD in the registry...

It's no big deal in practice, but I would love to know why Windows is being stubborn over this and keeps changing the folder name in this way. Any suggestions, given the information above?

Thanks

It's OK - I realised why this was happening. A backup programme was copying across a desktop.ini file to the folder.. :o
