Hi there, I am using Toshiba Satellite T130-11H with Windows 7 pre-installed.

When I tried to startup my laptop today, it was hanging at the "Starting Windows" screen. So I turned it off and was then recommended to perform startup repair. I done this but it froze when "Attempting repairs", I repeated this but again same thing happened. When I attempt to boot in Safe Mode, again I am directed to the startup repair. Letting it hang on "Starting Windows" eventually directs me to it aswell. Each time it freezes at "Attempting Repairs".

Therefore, sense told me I should go to "Repair your computer" but after stating the language, it then does nothing and sits with the background and cursor with no repair options appearing. I then booted with my repair cd and it now hangs on "Searching for Windows installations..." ?

Any help is appreciated as my higher exams coming soon, and essays vital!

Thanks, Ryan.

It would help if you told us what you were doing on your laptop before your computer wouldn't boot.

Two days ago I restored it using the repair disc as I was recieveing the "No Operating System found" message. This sorted the problem and laptop worked fine. Yesterday, using my laptop consisted of using the internet for Facebook, iTunes and Football Manager. Worked absolutely fine, now today not at all.

Do you know what may have caused the "No Operating System found" message? Did you touch anything in "Boot Manager" or install a duel OS?

Windows cannot repair the computer automatically.

If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assisstance.

Click finish to exit and shut down your computer.

I then looked at the error details and it says ..

Enter BIOS setup using key given on first boot screen (normally ESC on Toshiba). Make sure the HD registers in BIOS. Then reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Now boot back into Repair CD to see if it will discover a Win7 installation. If not, reboot CD, at first screen press Shift + F10 key to open a Command Line, type bootrec.exe /fixboot followed by enter then bootrec.exe /fixmbr. Reboot computer.

If Win7 will not start, boot back into Repair CD to see if it will now discover OS to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times, making sure Win7 or it's 100mb SysReserved partition are marked Active: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html

If Win7 will still not discover a partition or Startup Repair will not work after 3 separate attempts with reboots on confirmed marked-Active SysRserved or Win7 partition, then see if you can copy out your files by clicking on the Load Drivers link on that screen to use the mini-explorer: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

There are other steps which can be taken to try to Repair Win7 so let us know how the above goes.
Did you make your Toshiba Recovery Disks, or did any disks come with the computer? Does it still have the Toshiba Recovery partition which can be run from boot?

ok currently doing this and will get back to you with result. I made my own repair CD, done the trick the first time, and not sure if it has the Toshiba Recovery Partition which can be run from boot. How do i check mate? Ps having bother entering command line as still cant find Windows Installations.

yeh i've done shift + F10 mate, done it at the langauge choice bit, that correct? And interesting you say about F8 to get to advanced boot options because a couple of hours ago that worked, but now no longer working for me?

Okay F8 is working now, not loading any drivers to go onto Safe Mode, just redirecting me to Startup Repair again.

Is this a known-good Repair CD that has worked before? Can you burn another using Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn at 4x speed to be sure?

If you cannot get the Repair CD to open a Command Line or recognize an installation, try burning to CD free Partition Wizard bootable CD, make sure the 100mb System Reserved partition or Win7 partition itself are marked Active by righclick>Modify>Set to Active, OK, Apply. Click Explore on Win7 partition to see if your files are intact. Then run Rebuild MBR from Disk tab.

Will the Toshiba factory Recovery run from boot following the steps posted? There may be an option to copy out your files. If not, see if you can copy out your files using the method I posted to access and copy files from Load Drivers mini-explorer on the screen where Repair CD searches for installation.

I am unable to click on "load drivers" as the searching for windows installations just hangs there searching .. and no when i click on Repair Your Computer it doesnt load the options to recover factory settings

Is this the Partition Wizard bootable CD?

Which partition is marked Active? It should be the System partition, or Win7.

If you rightclick on the Win7 partition, can you choose Explore and browse to your files?

Did you try Rebuild MBR from Disk tab?

Your hard drive is failing or has failed. Download a diagnostic disk for your hard drive manufacturer (from their website) to test it. You'll probably need to pull out the drive to determine the manufacturer (usually two screws and very easy to do). Burn the diag disc on another computer and boot the bad machine on it. It will tell you if the drive has failed.
