For some reason I can't use my headset mic to record. I have been through all the settings to no avail. I have a Toshiba NB 250 with a mic and headphone input only. There is a webcam with a mic next to it. I am trying to use audacity but I either get no sound recorded through my headset mic or screaming feedback which exponentially grows. I am fed up not getting the answer to this problem and need a result ASAP.

First rule, remember this is a users helping users forum. Your statement doesn't bode well for someone looking for free help.

Have you disabled the web cam mic in the Sound Panel, Recording section? That would seem to be the first step, so your headset mic is the only enabled microphone.
