I know, I know - use FFox. Which actually works. But I would prefer to stay with IE.

Does anyone know what the issue is here? Regular vids work just fine; it's the livestreams that don't. It's almost as if I am missing a codec, or something.

I don't really have any add-ons: WMP (disabled), Flash (tried both enables and disabled) Spybot and adblocker.

Any ideas?

Actually my suggestion would be to update IE to Edge. I stopped using FF after many years due to video problems, am totally loving Edge.

IE isn't on the list of supported browsers meaning that they aren't likely testing changes on IE and surely there are compatibility issues. IE is old and no longer developed. It would be best to go with something else. If not FF then chrome or Edge. System requirements - YouTube Help

Internet Explorer is an obsolete browser, and it has been since a few years already. It's totally expectable for websites to no longer care about them and gradually begin to fail in some way or another.

There is no reliable way for you to make it work, and most important, there is no reliable way to ensure it'll continue working over time. The only possible option in the long run is to switch to another, more current browser. Both Firefox or its clones (like Waterfox) or Chrome or its clones (Edge or Opera for example) could both work.

If you insist in IE, be warned that it might fail at any time, as you've seen, on some feature or another, and it may also stop working on what still works. It's fine if you are ready to accept those limitations.

I hear that, but it's the only browser I can get to stop playing animations in. That's really why I keep using it.

Have you googled it? Depending upon your specific issue there might be a plugin. The fact of the matter is that youtube is now using, at least in part, html5 which isn't compatible with IE. Since M$ has stopped development for it that won't likely change. As time goes on more and more sites will stop support in favor of Firefox, chrome, and edge.
