What's the best way to remove finger prints, etc from computer cases?

My Thermaltake Element S is a finger print magnet lulz.

My keyboard is a dust magnet, so I know how it feels.

Assuming the outside of the case is a plastic or metal, you should just be able to get a soft cloth (I like microfiber) and wipe it down. If that is not enough, you could spray a little windex on the cloth and wipe them off.

It would be just like getting fingerprints off a screen or something.

I'd agree with Lordbob, microfiber cloths. They even make premoistened ones for cleaning PCs. A Guy

As long as it's not toxic (like paint thinner, lol) you should be fine. Although+ another for microfibre cloths.

The softer the cloth, the less abrasive and much less chance of scratching.

And for good measure, a few less than helpful suggestions for further finger print attraction:

► Don't touch it
► Wear Gloves
► Sandpaper your finger tips
► Cut off fingers

Effective, but as mentioned, not so helpful

I have a Toshiba Satellite which I absolutely adore, except for it's glossy keys on the keyboard. Quite possibly one of the worst engineering decisions I've ever seen for a laptop.

For the screen I only use a microfibre cloth. For all the other surfaces, a plain old terrycloth face washer does the job.

As for cleaning my screen, case and peripherals I must admit I primarily just use damp cotton gloves.

They aren't abrasive otherwise I wouldn't use them.

Occasionally, for a 'proper' clean of my mouse, m/pad and keyboard I use a skin cleansing swab which contains 70% Isopropyl alcohol, 1% Chlorhexidine and 29% Purified water.

Great for removing that gummy build up.

I use a vaccume to suck the dust from the case, in between the keyboard and on top of the screen.

Then i get a damp sponge and clean the screen, and wipe over the mouse and keyboard, to get the greece off of them. I only do this when the computer is OFF and the screen is COLD otherwise you'll damage the pixels. I dont bother with a microfibre, the very little bits of water on the screen evaporate almost instantly, i can only guess this is due to the properties of the screen?

I hope your not sticking the vacuum cleaner near any of your internal hardware... many a computer has been completely screwed because the owner has hit the motherboard with the nozzle of their Hoover.

As for Cleaning, I just use our air compressor (canned air would work just as well) to blast the dust out of the fans and the dust filters over the intakes, the rest of the case stays reasonably clean, although I'll give it a once over with a damp Chux cloth once in a while to remove any dirt and fingerprints on the outside.

No, obv i unplug the computer first and let it cool, on my Dyson i have a nozzle that has hair around the end, suitable for cleaning say delicate items.

Once i've cleaned the system, i like to see how good the dyson really is with out loosing any suction, i try it on my self . Its good!

I know how you feel. My monitor is piano black and it sucks and attracts dust and fingerprints from all four corners of the universe.

I bought a Belkin LCD Display cleaner that comes with a micro-fiber cloth. Works great and got my monitor looking good as new. Didn't realise how mucky the screen was until I got it cleaned up.

As for the inside of the case, I cleaned my CPU heatskin/fan from dust for the first time in 18 months. Was quite a bit of dust built up around it, but not bad for 18 months running. Dust guards are a God send.
