Case mod 2.0!

I really like this sub-forum, it's awesome!

So, summer is coming up and I want to get started on my summer project plans, notably, my compulator case. Last summer, I rebuilt the case, now I'd like to expand further some.

My first question I'd like to pose is about fan noise. I currently have two Vantec 92mm Tornadoes running, but on the 5V, the sound of them on 12V is demonic simply put (need a fan controller). My intake fan on the bottom front of my case is inset about three inches, so it's a little vent basically. I think I read once that if something like that is done, that can cause airflow noise, is that true? I kind of want to increase the length of that vent about two, threeish inches so on the inside of the case, I can build around that vent so I can have that space for cable storage. But doing so, can that actually cause noise due to the airflow rushing into the vent?

Next, I also need to fix my LED lighting, one of my LEDs died. If you had to choose a color for LED accent lighting, would you choose blue or bright white?

And lastly, if anyone knows that is, where or how can I obtain a rechargeable battery pack that I can chuck into my case with a PATA connector to power a system lightning setup inside the case? I checked Radioshack, they don't seem to have something of such.

Any help will be much appreciated! :)

Yes. Essentially you are creating a wind tunnel which will amplify the noise significantly. Buy 'build around' - I assume you mean to extend the vent?

Is it feasible to replace the 92mm fans with larger 120mm ones?

Alternatively you could sacrifice a little CFM and replace those fans with quieter ones. Either way, a fan controller is a good idea.

Entirely a personal choice there mate :)

Personally I'd go white because Blue has been done and red is the new blue. White is the new red ;)

Can't go wrong with the classic "radioactive" look of green though. :D Acid-etch a bio-hazard insignia on the plex-window and call it a day. :geek:

lol, true. I had some green fans for a while.

I removed them because they didn't match the existing reds - it made my case look like a Christmas tree :D

Shoot. Yeah, I plan to extend it inwards some to it matches up to my hard drive bays, so when you open it, there's a whole block of nonsense, with room for cable storage. ;)

I've been debating whether or not to keep it blue or go to white. I originally planned for it to be white, but at the time, I couldn't find any white LED lightning kits. I agree, blue has been done more than a European prostitute, but with black, it looks great.

If hiding the cables is mainly for aesthetics, perhaps use a single sided piece of coloured cardboard/plastic extended to the HDD cage on the viewable side to hide the cables.

The appearance of a block without the noise :)

Blue does look good with black and you'll be the one who looks at it the most. It depends on the case really. It may look just as good with white  - plus it's a fresh prostitute :p

If it's that Dell case, I think white would probably suit it.
