I have a dual operating system set-up, using Windows7 and Linux Ubuntu.
I am having problems running a number of cd-rom iso disks. Specifically, I want to load the iso disk, "GPARTED". This disk loads with no problems when I use Ubuntu as the op system. But with Windows7,
when the computer starts up, I hear the cd-reader/writer start up, the after approximately 1/2 minute the regular menu comes up on the screen.
Am I missing some setting or something?
Thank you

do you mean you are trying to boot off it or that when you load into windows it hangs at the windows logo and reads the disk before continuing to load into windows?

My apologies for not being more clear.
I am trying to boot off of it. There are some disk that load with no problems, such as Medal of Honor series, Microsoft Flight Sim, etc.
The disks that won't load seem to be the ones I burned from ISO downloads, GPARTED being just one of them.
I am wondering if they won't load because they were burned using a Linux burn program. If so, why?

if your trying to boot off it must be burned in a way to be bootable if it the OS should not matter it sounds more like you are in windows and trying to view that discs content and it does not show up. im still confused and its not your fault lol its late over here. if you think it is because of the linux burning it funny then try in windows and burn it with img burn.

Okay, I'll try that. I have some business to attend to, so won't be able to give the results until tomorrow.
Thanks for your replies, and wish me luck...

No joy...
Running Windows7, I downloaded a fresh copy of Ubuntu 13.10. Then I burned it to a dvd. The HP desktop just flat well ignores it. I checked the BIOS to make sure it was set correctly for reading from the CD/DVD and it was.
I then took the newly downloaded disk to my Dell laptop and it loaded immediately with zero problems.
I realize this is 99.99% not a Windows7 problem. But I have tried to solve this in a number of forums in the past. I am listing it here in case any of the readers know something about it.

Is your bios using uefi of so you need to make it legacy to be able to boot that disc sorry didn't think about that and sounds like your problem.

Oh oh, you got me on that one. I haven't a clue as to what you are talking about.
I looked in my BIOS and there isn't any word with respect to "uefi" or "legacy".
Again, I am using Windows7.
Can you clarify a bit?

I am now getting a fail indication on the CD/DVD burner. I suppose that has been the problem all along. I'll put the unit in the shop and let them sort it out.
Thank you for your replies.
I'll mark this as solved... even though it really isn't at this time.:)

No problem I think you can unmark it if it comes up again. Hope they sort it out so Imgburn couldn't Even see a disc.? That would indicate your physical optical drive is having problems. Or you have a lot of bad discs, or the data cable is bad.
