I have been to the pc shops many of times and they tell me to update the driver, and get software, i have it... its only when i put a blank CD into the drive... not a normal cd, like a DVD or game. only a blank.. and it freezes the whole pc.

Any ideas?:geek:

A couple come to mind, first what model is your CD Drive and what is your firmware version? Secondly, what software are you using to burn your CD's and if it is not the built in one by Microsoft is it up to date?
That's a start..........

How many CD/DVD type programs do you have?
Possibly may be a conflict with more than 1 program attempting to access the Blank disc at the same time.

Try This:
Start/Default Programs/Auto Play Settings

Change the blank CD/DVD to Ask me everytime, or to just the progam you want to access it.
Then make sure if you have any other CD/DVD authoring software its set in its own options to : "Do Nothing" when blank disc is inserted.

then try disabling autoplay altogether. it's a completely unnecessary feature anyway and some say it's a security risk.

Still freezes....

Its entirely possible that the drive itself may be defective ... as cheap as they are you might be better off to replace it.... ;)

It means the drive itself lacks support for the media codes that those disks are operating with, this is most usually a firmware limitation. especially true if its an OEM drive from the likes of HP or Compaq, which use restricted Liteon hardware.

One way to find out.. Might just be fixed by replacing the cd/dvd drive, and if you know a good used computer shop you can probably get one that works just fine for less than $10
