CD/DVD burner will no longer burn

When you upgraded to Windows 7, did you do and upgrade install, or a new install from scratch? Upgrade installs rarely go well, and something in the upgrade may have messed up the drivers. There is also a frequent registry issue with some laptop DVD drives, that prevents them from working right. That problem can show up in different ways.

I'll do a look around and see if I can find any details on that possibility.

Tried both of those links and they both eventually led to the same thing after i had downloaded them and it said the target drive could not be found.

Well I am out of ideas, and if you want to do some looking round then use gt20n to search for the firmware.

I have looked on the MS website and according to that it is compatable:

Windows 7 Compatibility for LG ELECTRONICS GT20N Super Multi DVD Burner: LG ELECTRONICS. Drivers, Updates, Downloads

Does your drive look similar?

Tried both of those links and they both eventually led to the same thing after i had downloaded them and it said the target drive could not be found.

Does the drive show up in device manager? If not, it could be the registry problem.

Yeah it does look like that, and i think it would be compatible anyway as i asked the manufacturer before installing windows 7 in case it would cause problems. Thanks for all your help anyway.

Only got this laptop November 2009 so its not even a year old, and i didnt burn that many before it stopped working, maybe about 20 at the most

The laptop is still under warrenty then isn't it, why don't you take it to gert repaired.

yeah think thats what im going to have to do, just thought i'd check on here first and see if it was maybe something i could of easily fixed myself that i just didnt know how to do, but obviously not that easy

That link that I provided a minute ago does download a file, download it save it to your desktop then run the .exe file, and see if that works

Are you choosing the bottom download link? Cause when I do it, it offers me a choise to either run or save.

This might sound daft but it is possible that you have some dirt on the lens, maybe if you have a cd/dvd cleaner that you could run and see if that helps.
