Well, it has been about a month now since my CD/DVD drive has stopped working I never really cared about it until now when I am trying to actually use it for something I basically get an error it differs depending on what I am trying to do, before it said something like "Path not found" Now it is saying this.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

You might also go into devise manager and right click on the Optical Drive and select uninstall; if the drive is an IDE drive (not sata) you might also right click on the IDE controllers and uninstall them also then restart and let windows find the hardware and reinstall it all for you and try it again.

To eliminate a hardware failure can you boot from the drive? e.g. Boot the Windows 7 DVD.

If you can then it's more than likely a software/driver issue

To be honest the thing hardly opens when I want it to, it seems like it makes a noise and doesn't open like it is attempting to, but then after my 5th attempt on pushing the button it opens, and I have not really tried booting from the drive, but I guess I could give it an attempt,

It does sound like a failure and you can get a replacement cheaply now.

yep, now it does sound like the drive is failing or has failed. They are really inexpensive now days so maybe pick one up and give it a try or borrow a drive from a friend and see if that works for you.

They may be inexpensive but right now I can't really do anything about it, I am not sure exactly when it started happening, or what caused it to but I am pretty >_>

That is one thing that will never work until the day I die, it is a terrible excuse for detection, it always tells me nothing is found always, even though there is a problem.

:) . I have had very good experience with it.

Recently I have had problems with my USB3 PCIe card. Suddenly one fine day, I found it missing in the Device Manager - the USB3 Host Controller. Twice I opened the case, reinstalled the card and then the driver. After detection, the device will again disappear. Finally, I ran the Microsoft Fix-it center. It did inform that there was a problem with Hardware detection and fixed it. Since then, the USB3 Controller has not gone missing. I have attached a USB 2 extension cord to bring the port to the front and regularly using it to monitor. As I said, it has not disappeared for the last twenty days.

So one cannot condemn it outright.

Hereon, thats the one thing I shall try first before opening the case. :)

That's the difference between our problem, it was buggering around the device manager, mine is not, it says it is installed properly it is running, no problems,

Obviously there is a problem if:

1.Opened my computer and checked the cables
2.Tried a new CD/DVD Drive

And it still is saying the same thing, if the microsoft program is not going to analyze error messages as so, then the program is absolutely useless to me, if it is not going to find the issue at the root then what purpose does it serve, because obviously it is not working to its 100 percent potential,

It may have solved an issue that was there to your eye, and that's understandable but when in a situation like mine, I don't like it and people have already tried recommending that same program to me plenty of times throughout this thread I believe correct me if I am wrong,

I have already tried reinstalling the OS and it still does not work so I am just going to call it a hardware problem within the motherboard.

You seem to be veeriing around to changing the motherboard. Do let us know if that resolves the issue or anything that resolves the issue.

But before changing the motherboard, there are two things that I would suggest you to try - if you haven't tried them already.

1. Change the power cable to the optical drive. (if you don't have a spare cable from your PSU, interchange the cables between the SATA HDD and optical drive)

2. Change the SATA data cable to the optical drive.

Worth doing it, if it can save the cost of a new motherboard.

(hmmmm.......I can write long stories on software that is not or seemingly not capable but just a snippet: when my mail server is not authenticating due to its fault, Windows blames me - check your user id and/or password. So throw Windows out of the windows. :))

Okay well heres an update because I thought maybe using an external cd drive would work but guess what? Nope it won't work either, now I have figured out it must not be the motherboard that is the issue, because I get the same error I do as if I am using my primary cd drive, any one know anything?
