Hello everyone.

I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 for many days now always with the same problems. I have tried v7000, v7022, & v7048.

I am trying to dual boot with Vista Home Premium x86. I have a completely empty 3rd hard drive I am trying to install too.

ok so I boot from the dvd and I get the typical windows driver loading and get to the first blue screen to install Windows 7. I click install and it says starting install then it stops and says cd/dvd device driver missing... This comes along with the brouse box to locate the driver. I have looked everywhere and do not see any kind of driver available for my DVD drive.

I have a Gateway GT5628
2.40 GHz Q6600 Core 2 Quad processor - 3gb Memory
I have upgraded my video card to a BFG Nvidia 260 gtx
& my DVD Drive to a Sony DVD-RW/DL +/- 18x DRU-840A
I have 2 SATA hard drives. 1 With Vista on it and one is just full of data.
I also have a New Western Digital Cavaiar 1TB SATA Hard Drive (This is the one I am trying to install to)
I am not using any of the 3 drives in Raid configuration.
I have very limited choices in my bios to do much at all and I have updated to the newest bios available from Gateway.

Any help at all would be great.
Thanks alot.
:)

Hi there! Strange error since it is reading off the disc, and since it is booting off the DVD.

In your Bios, try turning off the IDE emulation for SATA drives, and try installing again, let me know if that helped, and check to see if its in AHCI mode.

One last thing.... check to see that the CD/DVD drive is first boot device, and HD is second.

If all else fails and you have a big enough USB drive you can install from that, here is the information you will need for that:

OK I have a final fix.

This is what I have done in trying to diagnosis the problem.

First I checked with Sony for a firmware update. None available
Next I tried every combination of jumpers on the DVD drive itself, Cable Select, Master, Slave. I tried changing the IDE cable. I even went as far as to try another DVD drive from one of my other computers. None of this made any difference. I tried all of these things with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of windows7 7048.
I also tried to change my bios settings from raid to ahci. All this did was not allow my computer to boot back to vista.

ok so now onto the fix...
I went and bought a new LG Sata DVD drive. I completely removed The IDE Cable and Sony Drive.
I set my bios back to raid and it installed without any further problems.
So apparently there must be a problem with a combination of Sata and IDE style drives. I can not be sure of this but I would definatly keep this in mind if other people are having similar issues.

Interesting. The new operating system made you buy new hardware. Gee, who would have suspected that would happen? Let me see ... maybe ... everybody?

I have the same problem.
The difference is that I never upgraded the dvd drive... even more: i installed windows 7 beta with no problem, but now, with the new rc pt-pt version, can't manage to install....

any advice?

Here is a complete description of what is happening:

Description
I own a Lg P1 J345p Express Dual with the following specs: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5600 - 1.83Ghz, 667Mhz FSB, 2Mb L2 Cache, 1024MB DDR2, ATI® MobilityTM Radeon® X1400, 100 GB SATA 5.4k, DVD Super Multi Dual Layer (DVD-R/RW, +R/RW, RAM) (known as drive LG GSA 4082N).
I previously installed on this notebook both Windows XP and Windows Vista with no problem regarding the CD/DVD drive. Also installed previous Windows7 Beta which easily detected the drive and it's drivers.
At this time I'm not able to go through SETUP while installing (clean install) Windows7 RC Portuguese because, just at the moment it's configuring the system, a dialog pops up stating that Windows7 can't find the controller needed for my cd drive, which is really strange because it's running the setup from the drive! It asks me to point the controller from the hard disk or cd.
I copied the drivers Windows7 was using for the cd-drive but it rejects it.
Also, formated the HD with the windows xp that came with the notebook and also copied the drivers xp was using with no success.

I'm going totally crazy with this issue! And my "tech-guru" is offline for the weekend!

I'm having this problem too installing Win7 RC on Samsung NC10 via USB. The beta installed absolutely fine, but now it boots fine into setup but says "A required CD?DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now" - my Samsung NC10 doesn't even have a CD/DVD drive!!

Same Problem

I'm having the same exact issues.

1) Clean Installed Beta on same machine no problem
2) Boots from DVD drive but indicates CD/DVD drive is missing
3) I browse to current C\windows\system\driver directory with no luck
4) Device manager shows which driver the CD/DVD drive is using...I coped all to flash drive but Win7 install still can't find driver from the flash drive

I'm running IDE DVD drive "TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652L ATA Device". Hard drives are all Serial.

Intel Dual-Core E8400
PC3 1066 2 gig ram
eVGA 8600 GT
Intel BT38X Board

Any advice?

Hmmm.. might be a silly idea but since your Cd/DVD drive is IDE you might want to double check the jumper setting on it. Set the jumper to "Master" and try installing the RC again

(you will have to open you computer case to check your jumper setting on your cd/dvd drive. I have a similar IDE cd/dvd drive and the markings on where to set the jump are on the outside of the drive by the power/ide cable connections. might be a good idea to make sure everything else is connected correctly while you have case open)

hope this helps ....

I'll give that a shot....

I'm also trying to see if I can install this from a flash drive. I followed the "install Vista from a flash drive" tutorial but the copying of DVD contents hangs on this;

F:\boot\en-us\bootsect.exe.mui -> M:\boot\en-us\bootsect.exe.mui
File creation error - The drive cannot find the sector requested.

I know this is another topic in itself...

I found a resolution for this - for me it was do to with a corrupt downloaded ISO image. To check this, I recommend the following steps:

1. Re-download the ISO image from Microsoft
2. Burn new image to DVD at SLOWEST speed, to ensure no mistakes are made.

This will rule out any problems with download or burning which is exactly what caused the problem for me.

The fact that you can't copy the files off the DVD to a flash drive re-inforces the theory that some files may be corrupted. Try comparing total file size of all files in DVD to total file size of all files within ISO image - mine were different which meant some files didn't copy correctly out of the ISO image.

Hope this helps!

good to know :-) also good to hear you got everything worked out ....

I always burn any bootable .iso at the lowest speed my dvd has. (4X) and never have had a issue..so far lol

Use a flash drive to install

I ran into the same problem with the missing drivers. None of the suggestions helped much, but if you use a flash drive, you should have no problem. A 4gb drive should do the trick. Just use diskpart to format and set the disk to active, and then use bootsect.exe to make the drive bootable. It's a bit quicker than using a dvd, and it solves the problem nicely.

I found these instructions useful in getting the flash drive set up properly for the install.

Okay, i fixed it.

I tried to change my IDE settings (Native, Legacy, etc..), no change in installation.

Then I tried to burn another DVD using slower burn speed, but same installation and copying to USB memory stick issues.

I downloaded the iso file again from microsoft, burned at slower speed and installation went fine, and I was able to copy the contents to my USB drive.

Thanks for all the tips.

fix confirmed.

downloaded win7 rc on 06/13/09.
After burning image on max speed received "CD/DVD driver missing" problem.

After re-burning the same image on slowest speed (4x vs. 16x) installation went fine. :D

Thanks

Would that be why I'm getting the message that the installation is missing necessary files need for installation? If I use the DVD in one drive it throws the CD/DVD driver error, but if I put it in my other DVD drive it works fine except for when it starts expanding files.

It'll stay at 0% for about 15 mins, only to tell me it doesn't have the necessary files required for installation. Would that be a product of my burning the disc too fast or a corrupt ISO download?

Built in spite of a $3000 overheating Notebook (Poor Product Testing). Built this Rig for much more power and better reliability for the same price. Built to stand a test of time and remain fairly up-to-date and tried to minimize random restarts and system hard faults. Born July 17, 2006. Motherboard replaced once, all else origin build.
I had the same problem also.
What i did to fix it was quite easy. Quit the installation when the cd/dvd driver search comes up and press install again. Tested it two times here and the install is flawless then.
