Solved changing OS from 32 bit to 64 bit.

"disk 0" is an incorrect command. Not sure where you got that.

"select disk 0" is a correct command if you actually want to select disk 0.

Is disk 0 the disk you want to clean? Not disk 1.

It's critical that you choose correctly.

If you want to clean disk 0, you have to select it. "disk 0" is not the correct command.

You would enter these commands to clean disk 0:

list disk (to show the disks)

select disk 0 (if that's the disk you want to clean).

You should get a response that says "disk 0 is now the selected disk".

Then enter the clean command.

Ok... That went well . I chose disc 0 and it says disk part succeeded in cleaning the disk . Do I close the command prompt now ?

Yes, click Install Now. Follow Clean Install Windows 7 to Create and FOrmat a new installation partition with the drive Options pictured in Steps 7 and 8.

Does it still show a second disk? Don't choose that one, but report back the Size and Free Space listings.

Make sure you choose Disk 0 which should have only Unallocated Space. Click on it to highlight it.

Choose New and Apply the space it will list in the box for a full disk partition, accept notice box saying it will create a small boot partition which you should ignore. Highlight the large partition created, choose Format, and then click Next.

While it installs, study my earlier post below so you are ready to proceed when it completes:

You don't need any more than the Clean command to clear the partition table and boot code. Boot the Win7 disk, press Shift + F10 at first screen or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Prompt, then type the exact commands given in Diskpart Clean Command.

Then close the Command Box, click Install Now, at drive selection screen use the Drive Options to create and format a New partition for install, as shown in Steps 7 and 8 in Clean Install Windows 7

Be sure to use only the methods and tools in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so you know you've done a perfect baseline install. More importantly you want this to be a diagnostic install so that you can trace at what point the Shutdown hang begins if it returns.

Put your wireless driver in the backup so that if it isn't provided you can install it to get online, then enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3), open Windows Update from All Programs menu, Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional Windows Updates except Bingware. After requested reboots, go back to Windows Update to Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional updates until there are no more offered.

Next install your programs with reboots in between each so you can check for the behavior.

If at any point the Shutdown hang returns then System Restore to before it began to see if this solves it. If so then you will know that the last change made caused it.

Otherwise it might be hardware issue but we can deal with that if its present after reinstall. Hopefully not reinstalling all of the bloatware and Toshiba drivers will sort it out.

Yes, that should drop you back to the disk in the DVD drive and you can continue with the installation---if you want to install.

If you go through with the install now, you should choose that same disk you just cleaned when you come to the screen that asks you "where do you want to install Windows?" NOT THE OTHER ONE.

It should now take you 15 minutes to finish the install and be at the desktop ( Windows 7 desktop ) where you enter your name and what not.

Then I'm not sure what was the mystery of why two drives showed up in Diskpart. Are you sure you chose the correct one?

Do you have anything you need on the second hard drive? Make sure you protect it by not choosing it for Install. Are the size listings correct for it on the Choose where to install Windows page?

You should have unplugged that hard drive before you started this, but just keep going. When you`re done you can post a shot of disk management.

It's a laptop Brian so not at all expected. He'd have needed to disassemble or go into BIOS to disable. As long as the correct HD was cleaned its fine. If data is backed up to the second HD then he'll see it in the disk space listings during install which I've asked about twice now.

Now this is driving me crazy !! It's asking me for the product key which is on the box sticker .. I'm putting it in and it's telling me its not valid ???? It's the only product key I have ever had and used on this computer !!!! Phhhh ....

If you are installing from a burned ISO, you should be using a 25 character product key that came from a sticker on the laptop.

Not from a box.

Did you install from burned ISO that you downloaded? If so, downloads don't have a box.

It should have this form: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

That's 5 groups of 5 characters.

If you are installing from a purchased ready-to-go disk of some type, then we have to get into disk's pedigree.


Such as:

Have you ever successfully installed from this disk before?

Did you get it from Ebay? Newegg? Amazon? Craig's list? A friend? Found it in the street?

I do not know what an Iso is ... All I have done is used my BOUGHT windows 7 ultimate disk in the black windows box . This came with 2 disks . One in 32 bit the other in 64 bit .

The product key is 5 groups if 5 though and I've tried it about 10 times and its not recognising it ... It's the only one ive ever used and I am typing them in carefully too !!!
