ok ... back to this double installing windows 7 clean re-install that i need to do . i have been advised to follow option 4. i dont fully understand this.
Do a clean install of your upgrade Windows 7 at boot ? does this mean i have to have my disc in. shut computer down and then start up pressing F12. ? also... i do not see the 'Automatically activate Windows when I'm online' box during installation ?
part 2 of option 4 : do i begin this once my upgrade installation is finished and i have manually shut it down and restarted(because it wont do it automatically) ?

You need to run the WIn7 installation media from within the OS to choose Upgrade install, just like it shows in the link provided in Option Four for how to do an Upgrade Install with Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums. Start at Step 4 in that tutorial.

hi there,, i just did the start at option 4 bit and i got this message. The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.


Your current version of Windows is more recent than the version you are trying to upgrade to. Windows cannot complete the upgrade.


An error prevented a required compliance check from completing. Cancel the installation and try upgrading again.

The reason it's saying that is because the disc you have is pre service pack 1, when you did all your updates you upgraded to SP1 there by making it a newer version.

You need to download the newer version in step one of the tutorial Greg linked,

You want the one Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 U (media refresh) x17-59465.iso

From here,

Then you need to burn it to a DVD or a flash drive, all in the first two steps of the tutorial.

ok tried to do it with ie. downloaded it. tried burning it and again it failed with an error code 0xC0AA0301 ???

Phantom, what did you download and what program are you using it to burn with.

If windows 7 Ultimate, check the size, it should be 3.09 GBs

Try this burning software and burn the iso at no faster then x4 speed.

You don`t need Nero, try the one I linked.

And, did you check the size of the iso ?

I Downloaded the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 U (media refresh) X17-59465.iso. and tried burning with windows media burner. thats all i have installed right now until my computer is sorted then i can install nero.

Download the ISO to your computer and then using what ever program you choose to burn it to a disc.

Do not try and download the ISO to a disc burner or a disc.

I will go back to watching.

woah... now youve confused me ! surely i have to use a disc burner to burn an iso to disk ? i downloaded it to my desktop. right clicked on it and then tried burning it !
