Hi this question has been asked before in some ways but only on old posts. I have an old computer which was given to me with a admin system name which I did not want. I have changed that which was easy but then Changing the User Name Folder, is more complex. I do not have anything I want to keep and want to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10. After upgrading am I still going to have this problem unless I go to regedit etc.. and complete the task in win 7?

Hi and Welcome.

The best way to accomplish what you want is to create another account (with administrator privileges) and when you have it set up the way you want, delete the old account.

Many thanks. Doing a clean install first. Makes sense. But from your link it sounds complicated. I also only have Win 7 on the PC with no backup disks. I will probably just create a second Admin account and delete the main Admin account. Is there a free anti virus startup utility that checks for viruses outside of windows? Many thanks to both of you.

Yes, don`t change a user account, create a new one.

After you upgrade to 10 you can delete the windows.old folder.

Doing a clean install of 7 is not complicated at all, it takes less then 15 minutes.

And that`s what I would do if you`re just gonna upgrade, but you will have to reinstall drivers and run windows update.

If you are a novice I would just upgrade to 10 now, read up on how to do a clean install, then, in the near future, do a clean install of 10.

Changing Admin folder name in Win 7 Home and Upgrading to Win 10

Hi thanks for your advice.
I am not a complete novice. Just not all that confident with this new Win 10 upgrade and dealing with admin user accounts and the master one that win creates when you do a install. I have already renamed the master admin user but the folder name is the same. so I created a second admin account and want to delete the one win created automaticaly during win installation will this work? I.e can I now install win 10 using the Win Upgrade desktop prompt from the new admin user account?

Secondly I did not know you could also download iso images of win 7 home edition from Microsoft as long as you have a valid activation key. the PC i bought had no disks and the product key is in win 7 instalation is different from what is on the pc case, not what the guy who sold it said. Having scanned the hard disk for viruses with McAfee Total Protection 2015 and Malabyes Anti-Malaware, the HDD should be free from all things bad. But I know that there maybe still be viruses and a fresh format will still not be 100%. Before creating master disks I want to be sure it will be the correct activation key and and also that the instalation disks will be virus free.
Would be greatfull for any ideas? Thanks.
